So many speculations are going around that Sabo will fight Akainu instead of Luffy which is wrong...neither thematically Sabo has nothing to connect with Akainu nor emotionally more distraught than Luffy when Ace died infront of him....

There are two reasons why Luffy is the one who fights and defeat Akainu...

1) Authority vs freedom

If we look at the marineford arc, two main ideologies that heavily stand out i.e. freedom and justice. There are two extremeists present in the marineford. Blackbeard, an absolute anarchist and Akainu, an absolute authoritarian.

Akainu, the authoritarian, was an extremist who stops at nothing in order to destroy any pirates or people associated with pirates.
Blackbeard, the anarchist, was driven by his "desire" to destroy everything and operate as he pleased.

On the other hand, we have Luffy. Luffy is isn’t an extremist of any sort. He seeks out freedom like Blackbeard, but he doesn’t seek out anarchy. He seeks out justice like Akainu, but he isn’t authoritarian murderer. He represents the middle ground between these two ideologies. So basically, Luffy takes out the bad guys while in pursuit of his freedom.

It’s kinda ironic because Blackbeard Pirates and the Marines were the overall winners of this war while the Whitebeard Pirates and Luffy ultimately lost.

Akainu philosophy and Luffy philosophy opposes each other. It only makes sense if Luffy is the one who fights Akainu.
Luffy vs Akainu is not just simple fist fight but also a clash of ideologies and hence, narratively adds more weight to the story.

2) Akainu broke Luffy

Akainu is the only one who gave Luffy both physical and mental trauma.....He is the one who gave permament X scar to Luffy....He is the first and probably the last person in the whole series who broke even someone like Luffy, the feat even strongest creature Kaido couldn't replicate....The fact that the first ever time or only ever time we saw that Luffy rage quit his dream of becoming a pirate king until Jimbei talked some sense into him...it does not look good and a huge wasted opportunity if Luffy don't fight Akainu who hurt him the most in the series....

So Luffy vs Akainu carries more weight to the story

Sabo vs Akainu is nothing but a fanservice fight...

Agree and akainu is literally more obsessed with luffy than any character.

‘Greenbull prove it as to make Akainu happy is kill luffy.
Every villains that luffy meet are not crazy hater like akainu. Luffy simply get way of villain plans/dreams which it make villains mad, but villains don’t hate luffy because of his existence.
Even Big mom don’t hate luffy but she dislike luffy eating her food like lion hate other animals eating their food.

It is literally classic villain obessed on hero troupe .

Now on sabo case, we have seen back story on his view point on nobles. He is first guy who saw IMU existence. He is guy who got almost killed by celestial dragon and IMU twice.
There is no reason for sabo to fight akainu since he know who sit empty throne and know the true enemy .

Now if luffy , sabo , and akainu were in same scene .
‘Akainu will bull rush to kill luffy and luffy will focus on akainu to battle. Sabo leave luffy to deal Akainu and deal IMU guy with dragon.

Nice breakdown. I think you captured why Luffy vs Akainu must and will happen. However, I disagree with Sabo vs Akainu being pure fanservice. Sabo's dealing with his own guilt with regards to Ace's death. Even if he was amnesiac, he still, irrationally imo, regrets/blames himself for not being there for Luffy and Ace. That's why I always thought it'll be a tag team 2 on 1 fight. I always said both Sabo AND Luffy should finish off Akainu. I know the power level lads will get mad cause it'll mess up their Yonko vs Admiral garbage, but imo it's the best resolution for the three brother's arc.

The problem is Luffy is narratively at a level where he mid diffs Akainu and he's only going to get stronger.
No...this is a big misconception.....I am a hardcore Luffytard but I also believe that Luffy is not at that level where he mid diffs Akainu....it is not always black and white...Akainu will also grow or may have already grown....happend with Crocodile, happened with Lucci.....it is not difficult for Oda to make Akainu even more tough....

In all fairness to sabo I don't think him vs Akainu is fan service , there's just less build up for it.
I actually do think a lot of fans want luffy to kick Akainu's ass after seeing what he put him through before the timeskip. This only becomes problematic when the power scaling creeps that we are begins to take more precedence than what we might want in the story.
if people believe characters already beaten are stronger than him like kaido for instance which it does seem like atm;
with the knowledge luffy grows after each battle, fans will want a much bigger challenge and a lot just don't think Akainu is that person.
I can't exactly say they are wrong for thinking so. Oda hasn't exactly portrayed eos relevant characters in the light that would convince fans of their importance.

take a look at what people think about BB here on the forum
a yonko with a bounty of ~4 billion gets attacked by law and avoids a conflict with Rayleigh( who affirmed he would have lost) and all of a sudden ,a number of people are of the opinion currently he is weaker than luffy.
there's a clear disconnect.

If Oda thinks like 10% of worst gen who is 1% of total one piece fanbase thinks, he would have had Lucci out for the entire arc....even with Lucci that didn't happen...
People stopped taking another perspective....Law stalling someone like BB hypes Law instead of downplaying Blackbeard...

yup not to steer too much off topic but the misunderstanding from the law Blackbeard skirmish,
seems to stem from the fact that people are not comfortable with the fact that oda indeed is intent to portray law as a pirate of the calibre of someone that can command 3bil beries .

such a pirate is a heavy weight regardless of who they are up against and would be capable of holding their own to anyone. simple as.

who broke even someone like Luffy, the feat even strongest creature Kaido couldn't replicate...
WSC simply had no brothers around to fist... And he was going to do something far worse to Luffy but Zoro didnt allow it.

The only thing Luffy has over Sabo is the physical scar. Something that happened once Luffy already blanked out.
What Sabo has over Luffy is that he is the embodiment of 2 out of the 3 sake cup brothers.
Sabo fights for freedom as well. And he was broken mentally by Akainu too.

By all means, Akainu should belong to Sabo.
There is a narrative requirement for magma to be burned by fire and Sun God simply aint that guy.
But it is Oda, he forces Luffy into everything so I wouldn't be surprised if he fights Akainu after all.

How is it a misconception?

Do you think Akainu would push Kaido to a high diff?

If so imagine by the time of the end war Luffy will be even stronger than Kaido perhaps even prime Roger. Akainu has awakening etc there's nothing he can get to push him to Luffy's level.

IMO Luffy vs Akainu died the moment Luffy beat Kaido.

Luffy is too strong to face Akainu who doesn't even own Acoc, Im vs Luffy is the most narratively correct decision with Luffy being the freedom fighter who will liberate the world from this filthy and rotten government.

Isn't it more fan service if the main reason for the fight to happen is because of a grudge? There are probably more OP fans out there who probably wants Luffy to beat Akainu.

Luffy is the one who will change the OP world and for that to happen he needs to be the one who takes down whoever is sitting on the throne.

The way I see it, there are only 3 possible ways for Akainu vs Luffy to happen.( Luffy defeats Akainu)

1. Akainu takes over WG
2. Marines and WG will fall on different arc
3. Luffy and Sabo beats him Low-Mid diff as Luffy still needs to fight whoever sits on the throne

I honestly don't see any of this happening.
