It's another chestplate brawler against Oberyn and his spear, only this one is a little shorter and much faster going by the fact he can swing a warhammer at speed to keep up with a sword in close combat - with one hand. That speed should do well to mitigate Oberyn attacking the weak spot in his armour.

I think Robert in his prime takes out everyone not named Arthur Dayne.

Really interesting match imo.
These brackets actually did really good with the matchups for the most part.

Jaime got to slay another King lol,

Sandoq utterly meme’d nothing but Kingsguard Lord Commanders and now he goes up against Dayne

Oberyn gets a bunch of big strong warriors like the mountain,

A bunch of peculiar matchups here lmfao.

Robert definitely was using both hands for the warhammer lol. His weapon was so heavy that "Ned could barely lift it". Then imagine swing it lol. Even just with the great swords, everyone aside from the Mountain and Sandoq uses two hands. And Robert is on that Hound/Greatjon lv strenght.

So yeah. Robert's prowess with the warhammer was "legendary", he definitely relied a lot on his brute strenght with such a thing.

Then you've got Oberyn, very agile, with his spear. Really cool match.

Robert takes this.

A lot of people would dispute with me about that, as the Mountain fell before Oberyn, but here’s the thing: the Mountain was a brute with a sword. He had height and strength, but not much else. He was physically imposing but not particularly intelligent. As a swordsman, he was decent at best, but his size and power were really all he had going for him. Otherwise, he might as well have been a regular soldier.

Robert, on the other hand, was a hulking monstrosity, ridiculously skilled with his warhammer. He was like the mortal version of Thor, a Viking berserker. The more you hit him, the angrier he got. Poison wouldn't even matter—unless it acted instantly and killed him on the spot, he'd ignore it until after he'd left his foe a broken wreck.

Simply put, the Mountain had some skill with a sword, but Robert Baratheon had an incredible mastery of his warhammer. And Robert would have completely overpowered Oberyn.

Bobby B all day baby :kata:
Prime Robert is a monster. I have only the Elite Kingsguard of that time above him (Dayne, Selmy, Jaime) and even they could fall to him based on the circumstances.
He won the seven kingdoms by his might (Moubu of Westeros) and was definitely a top 5 Warrior in the verse.

Gotta respect Robert. Controversial take but the power behind Robert’s blows with that warhammer were > Gregor’s. Oberyn can’t play around so much with Robert as he could with Gregor. Robert lands one hit and that spear is breaking. Overrun could somewhat parry Gregor’s blows but I don’t see that happening with Robert really.

I think Oberyn has his chances to win this one but I will ultimately say Robert as well.

I would say prime Bobby B is only behind prime Dayne, Barristan and Jaime as far as warriors of the Aerys/Robert era. Basically the deadliest kingsguards. Ned called him peerles & fiercest warrior of the realm.

Someone like for example the Hound or the White Bull in his prime would put him really amazing matches against him but I'd bet on Robert more often than not.

Idk, if Robert just always used something that heavy with only one hand, it would arguably make him the second fighter most reliant on brute strenght after the Mountain. Agility definitely wouldn't have been his forte. Which, make no mistake, was good enough to make him one of the best of the realm.

Keeping in mind that Robert looks roughly comparable in brute strenght to the likes of the Hound and the Greatjon, and behind the Mountain, with none of them using some weapon that heavy however.

I think Robert would take this match most of the time. Entirely different kind of opponent compared to the Mountain, he should be quicker and more maneuverable, likely much more skilled, but still definitely stronger than Oberyn, and that warhammer should be a one-shot if it actually lands.
Should be a good fight, Oberyn can pull an upset or two if they had a few fights.
