Isn't it mostly the fact haki is confusing as hell that makes people hate it? I know that's the reason I hate it.
It’s a mix of both

I’d argue people that find it confusing are just straight up correct though

Oda hardly explains shit and his visual indicators are super inconsistent. If Togashi is critiqued for too much text and overexplaining everything Oda is almost the complete opposite regarding haki

Once he explains whatever form of haki is relevant at the moment once or twice he pretty much never brings it up or references it again (maybe every few hundred chapters?)

How do we know someone is using future sight? We don’t

How do we know someone is using advanced conqueror’s? Lightning! Except lightning is also used as flair for armament as well

People are still debating whether Koby’s Honesty Impact is an ACoC technique or not. It was also heavily debated whether Garp had CoC at all until the vivre cards came out

It’s just a jumbled mess. I’m a massive OP fan but I’m not blind enough to say it’s a good power system

I am only if there’s a way to actually deal with it

Imagine JJK if Mahito’s touches actually oneshot sorcerers regardless of their proficiency with CE or experience with the soul

It’s just an unfun wincon. Not sure it’s fun watching anyone get oneshot
I mean that’s basically how Mahito worked for most his time in JJK. Only few abilities were able to counter him, namely those who are cognizant of their souls and those who can avoid contact.

I liked those abilities; it forces fights to be more than just “punch harder and run faster.” Domi Reversi is the same.

I mean that’s essentially what all Mahito fights were anyway

Don’t get hit = be faster than him

And figure out a way to bypass his pseudo-immunity to damage

Very few manga actually handle hax abilities well imo. They’re either exclusively given to weak characters so they’re never used to their full potential or the counter to their hax is literally just don’t get hit which boils down to being stat based anyway

Very rarely were the fights with mahito about raw stats, it was about strategy which is why the fights are so good.

Look at Todo when he and Yuji fought Mahito, he couldn’t deal damage and with one touch, Mahito could kill him. However, Todo was vital in that fight because of his abilities and how strategically he used it.

DR being immune to Haki is awesome imo. It brings significant stakes back into the series
