It would be ironic, but if Akainu was one of the the mainly founders (Garp, etc.) of SWORD, it's obvious, that people can get corrupted and their "sense of justice" gets warped.

Example: Ace had to die, since Ace could harm the marines in the long run, since Ace is a pirate (an enemy). This might be Akainu's warped "justice" on protecting his fellow marnies.

Old Oda would draw out the God's/Holy Knights (depending on what fan translations you read) vs Rocks/Rocks' Pirates & Roger/Roger's Pirates fights for chapters.

But he must have his publishing and editors telling and forcing him to cut all that out to just tell the main story and to keep ahead of the anime.

Most of the cool fights this whole flashback arc was fought "off screen". :lusalty:
