Also it's possible that I'm forgetting something but I'm pretty sure Caesar never pimped himself to other rulers in an attempt to integrate Rome into a bigger empire.

Like, if that ever happened I'd totally have come across it in the Asterix comics.

While Caesar was by far a much better general then his nephew, Octavian was also by far the much better politican.

Caesar was by far too bold and openly ambitious. Octavian subtly let the Senate make him powerful (with behind the scenes influence, of course)
