General & Others Zoro and Sanji, Wings of Pirate King

He said Sanji is the wings, not wing or one of the wings. So, no, you're wrong.

But who cares? He has called them wings in SBS ages ago. They're Luffy's two main men and pillars of support. It's an old news that was stated by author ages ago and no one cared other than initially back then as well because, well, it's not that big of a deal.

If y'all really using something symbolic like that to fucking powerscale then that's just kinda pathetic. Your dude gets called important and first thing that you can think of is "BUT ZORO" lol...

Since you guys are reading and arguing based on this translation, you might want to know what the translator had to say about this at the end of the chapter, in the Chapter Notes :

Basically Robin is saying the exact same thing Oda did back in the SBS, and since she's refering to Sanji specifically, the translator called him "One of the Wings" to account for Zoro not being the focus of this particular piece of dialogue. Zoro is the other one.

Also, i honestly don't like the toxicity in the thread made to discuss this moment, with the very opening post starting with a premise that invites such toxicity by claiming that this is evidence for Sanji = Zoro in strength.

This does not prove that, let's be clear and honest with that.

Let's be clear with what it does prove as well though, and that's that Zoro and Sanji are exceptional within the crew and stand out above the rest

So no, it doesn't mean Sanji = Zoro. At least not when you narrow it down to just strength. Yes, it does mean that Zoro and Sanji > others.

She is saying "one of the wings", not "one of the two wings", because each one of the Straw Hats is a wing for Luffy and equally important to the crew, which ofc is nothing new.
All that Robin here is doing is placing Sanji alongside her and the others.
She's basically saying "Sanji deserves to be a Straw Hat just like me" she felt the necessity to confirm that.

Robin keep repeating "how much i ned someone to rely on me". I wonder if she felt set aside... the author did set her aside for a while for sure.

The wording is same.

"They're Luffy's precious wings."
"Sanji deserves to be Luffy's precious wings."

That still doesn't change the fact that Robin called him both wings without any room for additional person, though. It's not really a big deal because Oda did call them his wings, but Robin's comment just seems to be different.

She's either calling him both wings, or referring to their crew collectively as wings and saying Sanji deserves to be part of it. The latter makes more sense given context because Black Maria was mocking their crew at same time.

Importance=\=strength

Zoro is stronger but Sanji has other qualities that make up for this. Some Sanji fans seem to want a blonde version of Zoro but that's not what Sanji is.
And strength is not everything. You can dislike some of his personality traits and beliefs. I do like Zoro more but Sanji is undoubtedly a very inportant crew member.

The trolling coming mostly from some in the Zoro fandom can be funny but I don't really see why there must be a fanwar between the two fandoms.

Sanji and Zoro are very different characters that can't be compared.

As much as people troll about it, Zoro will always be the second in command and Sanji a little below him but some people are trying to put him much lower than he should. :kata:

The fact that Sanji is fighting Queen the third in command within the beast pirates while the others strawhats are fighting the flying six (even Jimbei) is a clear evidence of that.

It feels like Oda went overboard with Sanji humiliation against Black Maria and wanted to state that Sanji will stay as one of the leader in the strawhat crew. :endthis:

No, it's not Strength related at all, why do you people translate everything to Strength?
The whole Conversation proves it's not about Strength, cuz Black Maria said "He is No. 2"
Meaning that following Bounties, she assumed he is 2nd Strongest in Crew or 2nd Most Dangerous

But Robin replied that Sanji is one of Luffy's Wings, you think she wanted to say: "No, actually he is No. 3, not 2"
Ofc not, cuz Robin Reply was meant to change focus completely from "Strength" which Black Marie addressed to "Reliability"

Sanji stands out above rest of Crew in his Role, the guy is like "Chief of Staff" or "Hero" or "Sub-Leader" ... etc
Not Strength, please stop these stupid Power Debates, Robin's Statement indicates "Nothing" about Power & Strength of Sanji

sandman clarified that a while back

basically the term used in japanese is never used to describe a single person, and it is the exact same word used in the SBS that the translator of the chapter also mentions in his notes.

It's just one of those cases when making that transition from japanese to english is a bit odd, because it's harder to make it about the one person while still leaving the implications of another, which the japanese text does naturally.

All i have here is :

β€’ Robin :
Sanji deserves to be called both wings of the PK

Ur sanji fan puck already said the same :

He is just assuming lmao , read what he wrote there

With this chapter Robin confirmed Sanji is one of the wings of Pirate King, second wing being Zoro naturally.

I find this to be really cool and Oda once again shut up all Sanji doubters and reinforced the idea of Monster Trio

Wings need to be equal otherwise the bird will fly of balance

Zoro = Sanji

Post automatically merged:

:milaugh: people on suicide Mode.

Oda in sbs and manga : zoro and sanji are wings of Luffy

And we know a bird can't fly well with one wing being bigger the other

Zoro>=Sanji since the beginning till EoS

The fact Robin says this even makes it a bigger fact
Unlike comments from Urouge or Maria or Barto

Pretty sure the delusional one is the one who thinks Zoro neg diffs Sanji when Oda has gone out of his way to establish them being close in power

Wanted to post this too.

Several native speakers stating that the expression used usually refers to two peiple AND the same being mentioned in the past by Oda himself should make it pretty obvious, right?
