The chapter when he returned to action alongside Zoro was titled "The Stars Take the Stage".

So from a narrative perspective, I would expect Sanji to remain as the #3 of the Strawhat Pirates.

How is he going to surpass Yamato? Yamato is one among "the very strongest" in the One Piece world:

It may very well be the case that Haoshoku coating is the mark of bonafide Top Tiers.


In addition to that, she has:

• Her parallels with Ace
• A Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit
• Kaido's only daughter

She was imprisoned in Karioseki for most of her life, so she still has a lot of growth left with her Devil Fruit.


How is Sanji going to surpass her? Will he also ascend to become one of the very strongest? Or will he perhaps awaken Lunarian genes?

We'll have more info when his possible connection with the Lunarian race will be revealed and his germa powers awakening, but if these are plausible PUps he'll recieve there are more than enough for him to keep pace

Not Surpassing her, Sanji is a star Emotionally not literally, Yamato will just join and fight weaker opponents than Sanji so Oda makes it as if Sanji is stronger, don't see him surpassing her for 1 or 2 other arcs, EoW Sanji will just be Queen+ aka weaker than Yamato still.

As you said, Sanji will remain the 3rd strongest IN THE CREW. So this question really only is pertinent if Yamato joins.

Having said that, there are quite a few ways for Oda to do it. Not gonna discuss which I think fits more or whatever because I've done so a lot today already.

- Power Up Diable Jambe.

- Power Up Diable Jambe due to Lunarian ties.

- Adv CoA

- Adv CoC

- His attacks magically start working like Jinbe vs Whoswho

Pick your poison. There are arguments for and against all of them.

If I would have to guess, he'll get a Lunarian related offensive power-up in order to beat Queen + a power-up from Vegapunk in order to surpass Yamato by the Blackbeard Pirates arc.

I think EOW Yamato will be above EOW Sanji, but the gap may be smaller than some think.

I think he may unlock basic CoC this arc or soonish, but he may not get advanced CoC till way later in the series(he may not get CoC at all, but he's still going to end up above Yamato imo).

He may get advanced observation in the future(not future sight), but don't think he's getting any haki related power-ups in Wano.

IMO Zoro surpassed Yamato this chapter:

His offensive prowess was already leagues above her without Haoshoku coating:

Now, he outclasses her very badly in this stat. Yamato still has some advantages, but I can't fathom how she could possibly win.

1033 Zoro > Yamato >/~/< King > Rooftop Zoro IMO.
