I have to agree these barrier clashes make holding a sword entirely irrelevant. Luffy's sandal has the same effect, Oda is such a hack.

That's a good point.. But he's not just holding the Sword he's punching.. I literally mean, simply holding a Sword isn't a Sword Skill..

The thing is, there really isn't any nuance here tbh. The swords are just Haki sticks at this point. When has Zoro genuinely improved his skill in swords? Certainly not since the timeskip

I think Black Blades are going to be a game Changer for real Sword Skills, sounds counter intuitive but it will give rise to interesting Sword abilities..

Yeah, thats the point, to show that it takes skill to hold the sword in the correct way and use it efficiently. If you have played any racquet holding game like tennis, table tennis, badminton you would know their are different grips and one type of grip is probably favored over others and is most efficient and effective. So holding a sword the correct way is indeed a sword skill. Also to keep in mind is that for Japanese literature the sword is a very integral part and even though the current gen may be out of touch with their heritage, in literature this symbol of their culture will continue to be presented as it was earlier, to preserve it.
I was once watching a video in which the sword mastery on a cutting attack of a master was compared to rookies and mid level guys. As the technique is perfected the higher level guys are able to cut more. The master was able to cut through the whole object.
