So far Wang Zhi has no good feats or portrayal. He killed Marlon and captured Shakky, which is alright, but how was this man able to hold Hachinosu for so long?
One possibility is that he had something similar to Cross Guild going on. Roger, WB, BM, Kaido, and Shiki were all monsters in their own right. They amassed powerful crews and became emperors or beyond.
But what about the other Rocks pirates that didn’t have strong crews? John, Kyo, Barbell, Ganzui, Gil Bastar, etc.?
I think it’s possible that the Rocks remnants that didn’t become emperors teamed up, as Cross Guild did.
This is why Wang Zhi was called the “pirate guru”. He was a figurehead captain like Buggy. John and Kyo were likely the heavyweights of the crew, analogous to Crocodile and Mihawk. Loki could have also been part of this organization before he was captured.
Ultimately as the pre skip yonko: Kaido, BM, and Shanks grew in prominence, Wang Zhi’s crew got older and weaker. Folks like John, Ganzui, and Gil died off. This led to his crew being on its last legs by the pre skip, with Teach ultimately finishing them off at Rocky Port.
