Nah roger is fraud for me. Bozo failed to separate himself from other legends like garp or WB. He didn't show any new level of haki either. He looked mid from what my expectations of him where.

Why would he have to distinguish himself in God valley? It's the discovery of the one piece on the grandline's last island that set him apart. Roger was neither the strongest fighter, world's strongest man, world's greatest swordsman, world's greatest haki man or whatever. Since the beginning of the story, Roger's title has always been that of pirate king, a title that goes beyond strength or fighting prowess.

Why do people consider Garling as the loser of this flashback?

Only guy who really did disappoint is Garling. I was on the Garling vs WB agenda.

But overall I do not take GV that seriously. I doubt anyone was actually in their prime yet.
GV does not overwrite already established hype and portrayal.

The biggest W prolly went to Garp though. Most had him clearly under Roger and WB.
Atleast during that time he definitely wasn't as he was completely equal to Roger.
