The dumbest thing about the Eight Gates is that fact that no one else even tries to learn to open at least the first few, despite them being a straight up power multiplier. Sure, even learning the first few gates should require a bit of taijutsu mastery, but surely legendary taijutsu-centered...

But then why would Shanks care about getting Road Poneglyphs? If I recall correctly, Luffy mentioned in PH that Shanks is the Yonko he wants to fight most of all. I think that Luffy wants to beat Shanks in a fight with genuine stakes, and Shanks is aware of that.
