Kaido did what he had to as a pirate. He took advantage of a distracted Oden who couldnt even handle a single basic attack from Kaido which wasnt even a Raimei Hakke.

Dragon Kaido is just a huge ass dragon and simply doesnt have any proper weapon (no club, arms, legs). His boro breath is useless in an 1 v 1 fight as well. Oden had a very huge target to have a go at and he took full advantage.

Oden attack was a surprise attack and the cocky Kaido never expected to get wounded. He was flying around in his dragon form and Oden had a go at him. It was a free shot.

At some stage you'd expect a Kaido flashback for sure though. Then we'll probably see a few Rocks scenes.
