AdCoC can both touch or not touch, already shown with Kaido vs Luffy, and with Yamato When it doesn't touch, the user just uses Barrier / CoA level 2. It's that simple. Barrier is told & shown again in the same arc (Hyogoro tutoring) so people don't forget.
