I did the opposite, I started with the manga and tried the anime, quickly dropping it. I'm really hoping they can get a new anime studio to give it another go. Maybe the same company who does the Fate/Stay Night series?

That's a fair way to look at it; but, I think if you're going to be invested in it, you should try to read at a minimum maybe 25 maybe?

Most manga have slow starts at the beginning, I only know of a few that pick up really quickly, like Game Obu Familia.

Why are you turned off? Shin and Ri Hyou fock a massive amount of mock sword duels. How wouldn't they have improved from that? What makes it any different from One Piece with the time skip? Also, Ri Hyou was selected to be a body double for how similar he was to the king, not that hard to...
