For this instance and the plot requiring it I would say it isn't a big deal to leave that out. The panel of Kizaru sitting up right after is definitely suspicious.

So we think Kizaru gave Luffy the food ? Guess it could've been worse, at least it seems like Kizaru won't just fight openly for Luffy. A sneaky move here and there using his speed to help them.
