Mihawk can clearly use air cannons/ flying slashes as shown by his attempt at Whitebeard. This was visible. His off blow hit against Luffy wasn't an air cannon but wind pressure from the blade. This one was invisble.

Flying air cannons/ slashes are all visible, since they all look like sharp energy blades. Air pressure i.g. Mihawks bisecting the ice block, or wind based attacks from peeps like Kaido are invisible.
