It'd be cool if Oda let some other manga authors do short series on the supernova and their journey to Sabaody or what they did right into the New World.

Which wasn't registered as a threat until the chapter it was dealt with lol... That's not being impactful to the plot, that's busy work.
Take both out of the story, plot and Raizo, and nothing in One Piece changes.
One Piece characters are treated like toys that need to be brought out and then put away depending on Oda's mood.
Take out all of the Tobi Roppo, the plot doesn't change. The Straw Hats have no adversaries but for over half the raid that was also true.

The fire that was only a threat itself for a single chapter, before that it was all about the bombs which were neutralized. it was ripples throughout the arc for those two.
Lol the grim reaper is the most egregious because it's an actual element in the story. Zoro had hallucinations and we have no real resolution to it besides a joke. Could've just had Zoro pass out at that point.
And the only event Raizo felt impactful on was the water scroll stuff to quench the fire, a subplot that only felt dangerous the very chapter it was dealt with. Ashura Doji lived and died as a nothing character.
I think that's my big issue, they (Straw Hats and prominent side characters) just fight antagonists who exist in a void. Sasaki was just one tough guy in an army and with or without him, Franky's trajectory in Onigashima wouldn't of changed. It's real meaningless when two characters fight and...
