Well, hypothetically, if I was caught in a position where I couldn't draw and fire without them shooting me, I'd comply and deescalate the situation as much as I could. I would look out for openings to turn the situation around but if I really couldn't manage to do that, there are situations...

I would have more options than without it? What are you driving at with this loaded question?

I'm going to play devil's advocate here - I'm not the redneck "take down da guvment" flavor of gun owner, but this point has been brought up a couple of times, I'd like to raise a few points to mull over. The U.S. military has failed in almost all of its war efforts to control populations even...

No shit people too stupid to own guns shouldn't own them, the question is that should the rights of many be sacrificed for the sins of a few? Both pragmatically and philosophically, the answer is no. I mean, if you believe in democracy, and you can recognize the contradiction between most of the...

...No, they'll do them regardless. If my government tells me tomorrow all gun sales have been cut off, permanently (and lets pretend such a measure would have 0 political implications or blowback), I'd have 0 confidence that people irresponsibly owning guns would do an about-face. All it would...

But your argument was that the dividing line was "regulations". If you concede that the U.S. population at large is the problem, that proves my point. And that's quite an important concession, because the direct implication is that all these "regulations" amount to bullshit red tape like...

Define "proper regulation" without hand waving it as some vague quantity. Both populations have access to guns, and there's a massive discrepancy in shootings. It doesn't take a genius to see the reason Finland doesn't devolve into Baltimore isn't because of some hair splitting over...

There are also countries in Europe that have very loose gun regulations and still don't have these issues either - Norway, Finland, Switzerland. Why do you imagine they're not wantonly shooting each other?

But Militias weren't just viewed as a wartime necessity - it was a model for how founders envisioned the population to self conduct. The point was to avoid civilians outsourcing protection and management of their own community to their government, aka Police. We ended up eventually doing so...

Assault Rifles =/= automatic weapon. They can be but that's not a requirement. This is why the term is dumb lol.

Automatic weapons aren't very easily acquired in the US either though, maybe in a couple of really lax states, but even if they are none have been used in any major mass shootings I can think of.

You know, there's a certain irony to pretending life threatening situations never happen to people while saying guns should be banned to stop violence. Certainly nobody is ever actually in a life threatening situation. What a dumb take.

There's nothing special about "assault rifles", and semi automatic magazine fed weapon has similar capacity for damage, even handguns as seen in the Virginia tech shooting. Handguns are responsible for more deaths in general, I think kills by AR-15's probably don't even crack 4 figures annually...

Why not? Besides the designation being arbitrary something like an AR-15 is just objectively way superior at home defense and also helps mitigate collateral damage. Nobody blinks an eye at a 12 Gauge shotgun as it isn't an "Assault Rifle" and doesn't carry the connotation. But if you use one...
