For a doctor deep could be cut that showed your bone. If you say that a 2cm wound is deep you should be afraid of a wound that goes deep enough till the point where you can touch your bone.

If your skin has an average of 1.3mm thickness and your cut was 2cm you can't say that it wasn't deep at all. 1cm = 10mm btw

If a wound leaves a scar it means that the damage was quite important. Unless you think that every wound that you will get will turn into a scar. Note that it wasn't a little scar but one that appeared in his entire chest.

It's not that the scar itslef is deep, but to be a scar the wound should be deep enough till the point where it damaged the skin severely.
