Well in WCI itself the plot was brought, where he did not believe in his crew and though of doing his own things, this was to show that he now trusts them. Edit: I mean robins dilouge(I forgot the spelling wth dialouge?) itself suggests that.

This whole trusting plot should never come this late in this series. It should have ended in EL itself.

His fights are not written well anyway, so oda too doesn't care much about writing in that regards.

I think Yamato might give us better info about the story. Maybe she will be facing Queen. Not sure why fodders are being sent to momonosuke wasn't he top priority to end the war?:seriously: Unless Queen is going to confront them.
