Powers & Abilities Base Armament Haki Vs Non Physical Damage (Elements, Sound, Shockwaves, Poision)

I have asked this question a few times to the my fellow Z boys on discord regarding their thoughts on if Base Armament Haki (Hardening) protects the user from non physical damage. For example, would Hardening actually protect its user from Heat Damage(Mera Mera, Magu Magu, Goro Goro, Netsu Netsu Etc). Would it protect the individual from having Shockwaves run through them since shockwaves can bypass most mediums (Gura Gura, Sengoku's Shockwaves, Fishman Karate, Hasshoken, Sound Waves). Additionally, how does Hardening protect someone from being frozen if Kuzan makes direct contact with them or Magellan's Poison touches their skin?

To me It doesn't make much sense and I think thats why Barrier Haki is a necessary ability to have to protect one from these abilities what one can justifiably proclaim have durability bypassing properties to different extents.

What do guys think?

Vergo will need to negate all the damage from the SAD poison and radioactive chain reactions, which isn’t a problem with his enormous haki capacity (the attachment process will have taken a long time because the brat had to make it difficult)

But yes, Kouka protects you (look at Luffy’s haki protecting him from the Shinouki gas) More so if you have Chou Kouka

Yes Coa can protect you from indirect non-physical atracks and it has already been shown many times in the manga. For example the fact that Shanks was able of blocking Akainu's magma fist with his sword, that the three admirals were able of blocking Whitebeard's shockwave that was targeting the execution platform, that Luffy was able of blocking Chinjao's Hasshoken attacks, that Smoker and Doflamingo were able of blocking many of Law's attacks, etc...

It also depends of the degree of mastery of Armament of the one using it, an admiral and Emperor will of course be able of blocking things that a supernova or YC or Scabbard cannot.

Hardening can't really stop heat powers from burning you/your weapon unless your CoA mastery is really great


Barrier is essential to counter shockwaves/sound/fishmsn karate unless if you logialike then you can shapeshift a few times and not be hurt really.

Of course it does. At ridiculous levels. If it didn't, even a flex from Sabo Akainu or Ao Kiji would one shot many characters. These characters are not just elemental users, the power in which they can use their element is literally broken. Let alone someone like Kizaru. now for waves you might need a bit more skill but I am pretty sure Haki can block or repel anything especially if you know what you're trying to block or repel ( obs haki, breath of all things, armament can reach/interact with anything). I mean if Haki can block Law's OP DF ( which is nugh reality bending and can manipulate space itself, all matter and concepts in his room) I don't see why things like fire, light , poison or even waves etc can go through it. The advanced version makes it very OP for defense ( and offense) therefore.

Luffy's hardening stopped Caesar's poison so yes it does. COA automatically is termed as an invisible armor....seems pretty obvious

There are examples of CoA protecting against fire:
-Doflamingo using it against Baby 5, no scratch on his clothes.
-Doflamingo again using it against Sanji, no damage on his clothes either.
-Shanks vs Akainu (Akainu previously evaporated swords like nothing).

Against some type of shockwaves no (dials, Hashoken, Roukogan, Advanced CoA internal type, etc), since there is no proof of CoA use inside the body.
Gura is not really that type of shockwave, nor the Sengoku's ones. So against them is useful.

Against Kuzan ice works too, Doflamingo example. If Aokiji put his hand in his opponent's mouth and freeze him inside, then no xd.
Same with poison. But since Magellan's poison is corrosive, that Haki would be damaged if it is not strong enough.
Ofc in these cases barrier Haki would be better defense since the Haki would protect you outside the body directly and the attack never touches you.

I suppose that barrier haki can work like some sort of insulation since its outside of the body, but only for a time.

Hardening is like a layer ontop of your body. A shield can protect you from oncoming heat from the front, but since hardening can apply anywhere around the body, you can theoretically create a fullproof defense, so long as you have superior haki.
