IMPORTANT: I WILL NOT COUNT VOTES FROM THOSE WHO DO NOT VOTE FOR EACH FIGHT. ALSO IF I SEE OR NOTICE SOME SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY THAT ENTRY WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

In this round in this thread we will have 8 mentors , which means 4 fights.

FIRST FIGHT

William Zeppeli
William Zeppeli

Synopsis:

WHO IS WILLIAM ZEPPELI?

An intricatly written and interesting character? NAY

Does he pepper his sandwhich? YAY

Does he have a really cool fucking hat? YAY

Will he punch a frog to make a point?!

ABSOLUTELY YES

William Zeppeli is a stereotypical, yet interesting take on the mentor character. He's not got anything to really set him apart from his peers in his same category, but being an early character from where most of the stereotypes comes from he's mostly forgiven.

My personal draw to this character is his unusual appearance, and his really cool hat. He's like a father figure who shows up just when you needed him to show up. He mysteriously appear in front of Jonathan Joestar after a certain event happened..

He is a master of Hamon, and was training in the art after his father and his crew became victims to the stone mask which Dio Brando just recently had used on himself to transcend humanity

After William trained Jonathan he was able to do the impossible..

on a more serious note, Zeppeli knows his stuff in and out and is able to teach Jonathan at incredible speeds to master Hamon, and giving hope to destroy the stone mask once and for all. He even sacrifices himself to make sure Jonathan lives on and will be able to care for himself. In a final act of his life, he passes on all his lifeforce and Hamon reserves to Jonathan, making him able to not defeat Dio.

But.. his legacy lives on in the shape of Ceasar Zeppeli, and not to mention the most important..

Speedwagon inherited his hat..

VOTE FOR THIS COOL HAT TO WIN.

VS

Shanks
Shanks is a former member of the legendary Roger Pirates, the only pirate band to successfully conquer the Grand Line, starting out his pirate career on said crew as an apprentice alongside Buggy before forming his own crew after Gol D. Roger's death. Notably, Shanks is the pirate who inspired Luffy to become Pirate King.

He is a character that respresents freedom and strength, the man closest to the One Piece and the person that Luffy admires the most and wants to be like. The entire journey of Luffy up to this point was for him to become a great enough pirate to be recognized by Shanks as his peer and give him his Straw Hat back.

And it seems like it will happen very soon.

SECOND FIGHT

Satoru Gojo
Satoru Gojo. The strongest character in Jujutsu Kaisen.

He was born on December 7, 1989. His birth single-handily changed the balance of the powers in the world and started a new era in which Cursed Spirits became more aware of the danger that Sorcerers pose to them.

When he was a little kid he was seen by one of the strongest characters Toji Zenin who was known as the infamous assassin the "Sorcerer Killer". Years later was tasked with killing the Star Plasma Vessel that was meant to merge with Master Tengen and was escorted by Gojo himself.

They fought each other in a death battle with Toji having the upper hand at first but later due to Gojo finally unlocking his full potential he was able to defeat Toji and become the Strongest known Sorcerer alive.

Gojo is known for his at times goofy and free spirit personality but when he has to step up, he is deadly serious about his goals, motivations, and the way he is handling his importance to the Jujutsu society.

He openly admits to feeling displeased with the way Jujutsu higher-ups are managing their society. Because of this, he decided to become a teacher in Tokyo's Jujutsu High. He wants to create a dependable and accepting place for every sorcerer. He is actively trying to expose the fraudulence of the Jujutsu higher-ups with his actions and tasks his students with missions that allow them to grow in power and experience so one day they can overthrow them and begin a new era in Jujutsu society. He could just go and single handily kill each and every single one of them but he understands that it's not how it works and he would only make himself look like a power-hungry brute who wants to rule with an iron fist instead of what he aims for. He took a more politically correct approach although it is not as easy as it seems.

Satoru Gojo is not the cliche sensei that will take you on a 2 years trip or explain the basics for you from the beginning to the end. He takes a new approach with tasking his students with his own dangerous missions and makes them develop with the learning thru experience method. Of course, it is not the most viable way of developing your students who put their lives at the risk but in a way, he prepares them for the cruelty of this world. One day he will need to step down and he needs people whom he can pass the torch to and trust them with the safety of the world targeted by cursed spirits and evil sorcerers.

Gojo always knows what his students need. He knew Yuji needed emotional support so he invited Nanami to help him, he knew what was holding Megumi back so he helped him, he told Yuta how to release Rika and use a sword, it's always Gojo flashbacks that save his students.

Then I'd write about him being a bit of an unconventional teacher. Also, what I appreciate about him is that he sees his students not just as students or sorcerers, but as kids who should get to enjoy their youth when they can.

Take the baseball game for instance. The other teachers decide amongst themselves to not continue with the event at all (and for reasons that are kinda understandable, to be fair). But Gojo leaves it up to the students to decide whether the event should continue after all that goes down. When they do decide to continue, the other adults are okay with following routine and letting the students go at each other's throats again. But Gojo goes with a baseball game instead, which not only helps the students take a much-needed breather but also lets the Kyoto students get to know Yuuji as a fellow kid rather than as 'Sukuna's vessel'.

VS

Kiritsugu Emiya
Idk if I should consider Emiya as a pure mentor, but the only reason why I'm considering his is because Shirou, his adopted son, seeks to be Hero of Justice because his father failed to become so (Im still watching fate but not that matters). Kiritsugu is a brooding and conflicted person. In his youth, Emiya also wished to become a Hero of Justice and protect the weak.

Emiya Kiritsugu is one of the most intriguing characters in all of anime. He was a ruthless mercenary who will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals and was protag of Fate Zero. Thatโ€™s not all there is to the character though. Despite his brutal methods, which he has become notorious for in the magic community, he has a certain amount of compassion to him and his goals are noble. This makes the character even more fascinating, and the most interesting and complex character in all of anime.

Kiritsugu's backstory is one of the reasons why I like him alot. In his youth, Kiritsugu lived on a small island and had many friends. He was compassionate. But one day, his crush Shirley, decided to try out some of the medicine Kiritsuguโ€™s dad made in order to convince the villagers that the Mage was trying to save humanity.

Shockingly she lost control over herself and became a Dead Apostle (similar to a bloodthirsty zombie, capable of spreading the effect onto any human it attacks). During the last moments of her sanity, she had begged Kerry to take her life, which he couldnโ€™t, and thus the entire village ended up getting infected. The Mage Association and the Church Executors promptly arrived at the scene and exterminated everyone without discrimination.

Kiritsugu, realizing that his father was the cause of this and he would continue his Dead Apostle experiment, hardened his resolve and killed his father to prevent more deaths. Kiritsugu then resolved to make meaning and worth from the murder of his father. Only by hunting and assassinating all heretic magi like his father could he truly prevent such tragedies from occurring again.

Kiritsugu tries to hold to the belief that there is no differentiation in sacrifice, that all life is equal and choosing the path leading to a smaller sacrifice is for the best. With a target that must be eliminated to save the world by obtaining the Grail, killing one thousand people to save at least five billion more should be an easy task for him. He finds himself unable to do so when planning to destroy the Hyatt hotel. He hates the idea of fatal romanticism like the hope that the innocent tenants will be able to escape the hotel in time impeding his abilities. Such ideas and sentiment would kill him on the battlefield, so he feels that he must rid himself of them as much as possible.

Kiritsugu managed to defeat his opponents and attain the Holy Grail, only to discover a shocking truth. The Holy Grail was no omnipotent wish granting device, but something which would just serve as a worldwide extension of the assassinations he had been carrying out all his life. Had he made the wish of ultimate peace, the Grail would have kept eliminating the unruly to balance the beam until the end of time, a process which would end up killing more people than any war possibly could. So he ordered Saber using his command seals to destroy the Grail, much to the latterโ€™s despair. Shockingly, the destruction of the Grail caused widespread fires and led to the death of many people, and left him a broken man. The only survivor he could find was a child named Shirou, who he would later adopt.

Overall, while Kiritsugu is a ruthless, conflicted, calculating, stoic, and cold-blooded killer who has committed some villainous acts in order to achieve his goals, he is idealistic and has good intentions which makes him mostly an anti-hero and mentor of shirou (who wishes to be Hero Of Justice)

THIRD FIGHT

Genkai
Genkai is Yusukeโ€™s Spiritual Teacher. She first appeared when Yusuke entered a tournament where the prize was tutelage under her. Genkai is a crude and temperamental old woman. She spends her days in seclusion in the forest due to events In her past that deeply scarred her.

As a mentor, Genkai is immensely strict, her training regime resembling torture rather than exercise. But she softens up to Yusuke, and develops a motherly attachment to him.

She would later compete alongside Yusuke and his friends in the Dark Tournament under the pseudonym โ€œThe Masked Fighter.โ€ Genkai continues to guide Yusuke through this identity, as he battles hordes of demons to reach his ultimate goal, Toguro.

What makes Genkai such a compelling mentor is her relationship with her student Yusuke, acting as a parental figure to the unruly brat. Yusuke was a delinquent. He had little supervision from his mother, and his father was absent all his life. He lacked the guidance and responsibility that would aid him along the way, until he met Genkai. She was woman who had lost everything a long time ago. Past students, teammates, and a lover. All to satiate the lust for power of man she knew and she did nothing to stop. After her losses, she had no reason to go on, content with rotting away a lonely old woman. However, when she met Yusuke, it gave her a purpose, someone she could entrust her legacy to. A boy confused and scared about his place in the world she could help. Yusuke reminded her of her old lover, Toguro himself, and how both he and Yusuke vied for power and acknowledgement. But power for the sake of power is an empty existence Genkai did not wish on Yusuke, and she strove to prevent him from walking the same path as Toguro.

Due to her spiritual training, Genkai is capable of temporarily accessing her younger, stronger self for use in battle, but every time she does so is at the toll of her life.

Her past would catch up to her when she was forced to face Toguro in a life or death struggle. He chastised her for her mortality rather than accepting power like he has, and that nothing awaits her but a pitiful death. Genkai would perish in their face off, but not before she imparted to Yusuke the lessons that would help him defeat Toguro and lead a better life than she or her former lover ever did.

General Ouki
Great General Ou ki, was one of the six Great Generals of Qin. The "Monstrous Bird of Qin" as he was widely known to the world.

Ouki later plays the role of mentor to Shin, the protagonist of the Story. Is mainly responsible for turning the brute into a Leader/General he is today. Even in the final moments, he taught greatest of lessons to Shin about what it meant to be a Great General of the Heaven. As a Mentor should Ouki completly believed in Shin, left his iconic glaive in the youngster hands upon his death and to keep the flame always live.

Ouki will forever remain the Prime Role Model for Shin as he fights to be the Greatest General in Kingdom History.

FOURTH FIGHT

Hatake Kakashi
Kakashi Hatake stands as one of the greatest mentors for the lessons that he teaches his students. He doesnโ€™t simply train them to become stronger, he trains them to become better people. He trains them to have morals and integrity.

His greatest lesson to Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura wasnโ€™t a new technique for them to learn but a lesson of ethics and teamwork. Itโ€™s one of the most iconic lessons in all of anime: the bell test. During this test, when Naruto was tied to a stake and denied lunch, but his fellow squad mates went against orders and fed him their lunch. However, instead of punishing them for this, they passed. Kakashi left some valuable words for them: โ€œIn the ninja world, those who break the rules are scum. But those who abandon their friends are worse than scum.โ€

Kakashi passed the three main characters because they stuck together as a squad. They didnโ€™t leave Naruto to suffer from hunger. And while they broke the rules, what was more important was their teamwork. Kakashi was able to instill to them a strong moral code about putting the team before themselves for which Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura could carry into the rest of their ninja lives. This is great mentorship. Being a mentor isnโ€™t necessarily just about making your students stronger, but also giving them an ideology to follow. A good ideology that will help embark them on an honorable journey.

VS

Iroh from Avatar
Iroh was a retired Fire Nation general, a former Crown Prince of the nation, a Grand Lotus of the Order of the White Lotus, a firebending master, and a wise mentor to his nephew Zuko. He was the elder son of Fire Lord Azulon and Ilah and the older brother of Ozai. Iroh's well-known ability to breathe fire and his claims of "slaying" the last dragon earned him the honorary title "The Dragon of the West".[

Unlike many other individuals from the Fire Nation, particularly those within his own family, Iroh was a wise, easy-going, and spiritual man. He appreciated and admired the balance of the four elements, and even incorporated aspects of the other elements into his own firebending techniques.[ Iroh aided Avatar Aang and his companions on several occasions, and was consequently branded as a traitor. An extremely perceptive person, he journeyed to the Spirit World in search of his deceased son Lu Ten His knowledge and respect for the four elements allowed him to provide advice to others; he assisted many close associates and friends.

After the traumatic death of his son, Iroh saw Zuko as his own son rather than his nephew, and encouraged him to choose his own destiny, rather than a fate members of the royal family expected of him. Upon Zuko's coronation as Fire Lord after Ozai's defeat and the conflict's conclusion, he reopened the Jasmine Dragon tea shop, and served tea for the rest of his retirement. When he deemed his business in the mortal world finished, Iroh chose to leave his body behind and travel to the Spirit World, where he continued serving tea to various spirits.
Easygoing, open-minded, wise, comforting, generous, advising, kind, and humorous, Iroh treated his self-imposed exile during Zuko's search for the Avatar as though it were an extended vacation. Something of an epicurean in his old age, he did not devote his full energies to the pursuit of the Avatar, clashing with the dedication of his nephew. However, beneath his easygoing attitude lays a wise man experienced in the ways of the world, a seasoned and wily strategist, and an incredibly strong and powerful firebending master.

Although he appeared hedonistic, Iroh's life philosophies were about living life to the fullest and choosing your own destiny. He was a firm believer that everyone had the power to create their own destiny. He appeared laid-back because he understood that there were things in life he could not control, but he also believed that a person is fully responsible for the parts they can. From Zuko's point of view, Iroh seemed lazy, but from an objective point of view, it could be seen that he understood that Zuko was misguided. Throughout the last year of the Hundred Year War, Iroh constantly asked Zuko what it was that he wanted in life, asking him if capturing Aang was the destiny that he chose, or a path that others told him he needed to follow. Iroh was a father figure to Zuko.

Probably as definitive of Iroh's character as his love for tea was his sage advice and wisdom. Iroh was known by his niece and nephew for his sometimes cryptic proverbs and lengthy anecdotes. Throughout Books One and Two, Iroh constantly guided Zuko during his exile and critical, character-shaping decisions. He had also advised Aang and Toph to great effect.

Wouldn't really call Shanks a mentor. He's a role model if anything. Rayleigh would be much more fitting as a mentor to Luffy.

Kakashi vs Iroh. Damn, that is a tough one. Both are easily among the greatest mentors in animated fiction, at least for what I have seen so far in my life.
