Obviously the Middle Trio is way too weak to defeat the Elders, who have regeneration, advanced Conqueror's Haki, mythical forms etc. Though the Elders don't have to be defeated. When Imu gets beat, they will lose their immortality. They only have to be stalled, until Luffy knocks out or kills Imu. It should be possible for EOS Brook, Franky and Robin to stall them.
Venusjuro is a horse skeleton swordsman with ice powers. Perfect for Brook. Warcury is a tank, like Franky. Mars can turn into a bird, like Pell (Robin's first big fight).
Many more reasons, but the most important thing is to abandon the assumption that the Gorosei will be defeated, through some new type of Haki or something. Imu will lose and they will shrivel away like Saturn. I think Jupeter will fail during the Moon Arc already, and then be discarded.
