Colon clearly shows the same spirit that Kid Luffy was showing at the beginning of the story.
He underestimates gravity of situation. He thinks very highly of himself, he probably never seen what awaits in real (one piece) world.
He wants to set sail like Luffy used to do until Shanks lost an arm to Lord of Coast.
He clearly needs a reality check.
Similar situation is brewing now where colon is actively seeking combat which he doesn't have any business to do so.
