Ryuma was using his sword for a lot more than 3 chapters before it got revealed lol. There has been no focus on his sword yet so it wasn’t mentioned. He has a sword. He’s going to use it eventually

Ryo, aside from the fact we can't see a single word cut on anyone, had the time to put his sword away, take a Den Den Mushi, call someone and the sword was still black.
As for the reaction, I always found, for everyone, really exaggerated to scale using them. BB had some of the most pathetic scenes and funny faces, but will be the strongest in the world second to Luffy. BM also had some pathetic reactions or scenes, but was still BM. Luffy made that face only seeing Kizaru getting close, and so on.
But agree: it seems Oda does not care.
