General & Others Do the the Strawhats feel out of place to anyone else?

Yeah the strawhats except Zoro and Luffy have taken a back seat to the worst generation post timeskip.

- PH / Dressrosa was all about Law

- Zou and WCI was all about Bege

- Wano has been all about the supernova as well
honestly i would be fine with the back seat too. i would be okay with reduced panels time too IF the panels we see our Protag(which happens rarely) werent just gags. instead these panels shows stawhats interactions and they actually doing something. being useful ON panel. 90% of sanji panel is perverted gag. chopper being useless as a doctor and as a char and only successful as a fkn mascot. Robin who is a background char.

Definitely yes. You can argue that it is rather natural to focus that much on secondary characters for how complex the new world is, however Oda's primary interest should be giving juice to the actual nakamas and make sure to empower their moments and interactions as well.

By moments I include any kind of it. Even a fight.

I dunno. How invested were the Strawhats in Skypiea? They didn't give a fuck about the backstory of the country- I don't think they actually even know it.

I understand and agree with complaints about them not being on-screen enough, but I'm not so sure about this non-investing stuff.

Arc to arc, off the top of my head
FI- Luffy, Jinbei and Shirahoshi were the heart of the arc, Nami in second due to her background. A good amount of the crew heard the tale of FI and why they were fighting
PH- Chopper and Nami were furious over the treatment of the children, Sanji bonded pretty quick with Kine'mon, Luffy with Momo (I'm going to stop mentioning Luffy from now on, he's always invested)
Dressrosa- Sanji with Viola in his brief time there, Franky told Luffy no matter what he said he was fighting for Kyros and the Tontatta, Ussop became their hero
Zou- all the Strawhats who were there nearly burst into tears after seeing the Mink loyalty. Listened to a part of the Wano story, agreed to go to war
WCI- the arc was about Sanji, obv the Strawhats cared. We also had them bond with the Minks and Pudding
Wano- the arc where we see Zoro finally care about things. A load of them met Yasu and liked him. Ditto for Toko. And this is culmination for all the abuses the Strawhats have seen in PH/Dressrosa/Zou as well, so we do know the Strawhats cared about those things.

idk.. I feel like the only character that matters in one piece anymore is this guy..

Honestly, I just find Sanji absolutely disgusting, last chapter... I mean, even if it was just a gag, that's just disgraceful really.. I mean, it would've been fine if it was the start of post-TS but by this point, come on... I would've at least expected him to sober up a bit.. but this is just ridiculous.. and annoying..

I mean, look at Sanji's intro in Baratie.. or even in Alabasta... his quirk wasn't even that bad.. but now, it's just starting to get unbearable... going to a whorehouse and getting disappointed coz he didn't find any prostitutes?? This is just... I'm speechless..

And Robin.. jeez, the only things that's going for her these days is just being a dictionary....

i think large part of it is due to how pre TS had balance among these stuffs. yes Sanji was always a perv but he would do lots of cool behind the scene stuffs that we could easily get behind the pervy gag and appreciate the Hunter, Mr Prince. but now Oda is doing the same old pervy stuff but the Prince isnt there anymore. pre-skip he felt like a perv now in many situation to me he is a borderline creep/sexual harasser. but i actually expect Sanji to do some Hunter/Prince stuff this war. in the recent chap he seem to be getting separated from the group which could start his solo quest, at least so i hope.

and all the poor treatment Sanji or any other char are receiving in the manga i dont hold them responsible anymore tbh. ofc every char is responsible for their action. but when the author goes out of his way to either make someone look too good/bad i think at that moment its Author who is responsible not the char himself anymore. just my 2 cent.

Anyone else feels that the Strawhats outside of Luffy feel out of place in The Post Timeskip arcs? Well not all and not all of the time but I can't help but feel this way about them compared to how they were before

Before the conflict felt personal for most of the Strawhats , they felt involved in the plot and what's going on

Ever since Punk Hazard it felt like they didn't really care about what's going on or the War against Kaido and Doflamingo , they were just doing it because Luffy wants to take down a Yonko , it might be because Oda was too busy focusing on other Characters such as the Supernovas but it's hard to even care about them anymore since they feel like NPCs doing what the plot demands instead of characters with their own motivation
It largely comes down to the difficulty Oda has in juggling a much larger character roster - hopefully after Wano this becomes less symptomatic of the story

the problem started during the id/marineford arcs when Luffy was without his crew

it was a ballsy choice and proved how excellent oda’s world building is that he could go months without showing the majority of his main characters besides luffy and still have such compelling story and moments.

on the other hand it set a precedent for the straw hats being non-essential to the main story. I don’t think oda cared to do much with them after that and they’re kind of just taken for granted now.

Yeah, it's in a way fantastic that the story can easily flow without them.

I feel kind of guilty because I was thrilled over the crew being separated, it was such a refreshing change. Luffy struggling in Impel Down and Marineford without going back and forth to the other Straw Hats was great.

I also liked when Sanji Retrieval Team was separated. I'm fine with them not being together. The issue is that those who ARE together have to have good chemistry. The chances of this are better if there's fewer of them, Oda knows this too.
