When laws exist but the state doesn't follow them, what are the laws even good for?
The state will have to follow them. after a state passes a piece of legislation, the governor has to ratify it. Once its law there is no way the state can realistically avoid enforcing it. If the legislation is well written and has as few loopholes as possible, the state will be pressured into implementing them. If New York was to pass a law to create a universal healthcare system, the pressure from the people of new york would bee too much for the state to try and slap it down.

What if they shoot the people down and still dont follow their own laws?

I don't believe that's the correct way to enact real change in America. I still think that we can make a difference by passing the right legislation at the state level. When said legislation inevitably gains massive popularity (like a universal healthcare system) other states will have no choice but to follow suit. I don't believe that political violence is the answer here.
Hit the nail on the head... starts at the state level. Universal healthcare is needed in America

YYeah ok

But when a program is implemented they can still refuse to act upon it in practice, as long as they can get away with it
Ok that's why you gotta keep advocating for it even after it's written into law. Politicians will inevitably try to gut it, but if the people keep pressuring the government and they make it loud and clear that this is what they want, then it becomes political suicide to be against it. It's like social security, if you come out and say you're against it, no matter if you're republican or democrat, there will be backlash.

Going a tad off subject

Quoting this not to counter you but to show the point... this is the classic Conservative counter argument to passing Universal Background Checks... it's the dumbest thing ever but it's America at it's finest

What are the CITIZENS' ACTUAL points against universal healthcare
Getting Specific surgical procedures

I don't understand

Not getting this one either
Need a specific heart procedure done... people go to the US for it because US has specialists etc. It's the argument for private insurance

The guns part is The Conservative counterargument against guns is even if you pass the laws people will still break them and give guns i.e universal background checks

This argument makes no sense

Universal healthcare doesn't stop rich people from getting additional private one that provides better treatment, no?
It is a lot more accessible to get those procedures in US than any other country in the world.

I agree it's dumb but it's the argument "pro healthinsurance" people make

@Admiral Maynard

Second counter argument is "it will add on to the debt" blah blah blah

Again it's dumb and USA should have universal healthcare but it's how our system is
