Controversial Is there a dumber part of the fandom than those that downplay or can't percieve Smoker's relevance/importance?

Genuinely clinical stupidity.
Like Homer Simpson walking through the doorway with a wooden plank nailed to this head.
Imagine seeing a warning sign at a cliffside, seeing multiple people jump off the edge, and then diving off because you're committed to displaying a lemming.
That's them and they're genuinely disgusting beings.

I just never liked smoker or that kind of character. Where he had an overpowered Devil Fruit so early in the series without a way to counter or deal with it. And a weapon that was strong against other Devil fruit users.
Depending on what he has in store in the future I don't really care strongly one way or the other.

Smoker is a really well written character and his relevance is obvious being the main marine that is aware of the corruption in navy and has a genuine motivation to fight for true justice. Hes also just really cool as well. Literally the only reason people dont like him is because he took Ls, just powerscaling mongrels. People in this fanbase dont like characters that get stronger over time, they prefer characters that are just introduced as mega powerful

Yes, there are people that are much more dumb than what you are refering too.
Smoker has been important from the very early days. Was prominent during Punk Hazard and if Oda doesn't have him turn sides at Egghead it'd be L writing from Oda.
Egghead is going to be an arc of big ramifications as all of us know already. There has to be a big war here. They have to fight WG to save Vegapank who is very integral to the story. The relationship of Smoker with Vegapank due to his treatment of the kids from Punk Hazard has to be brought into the story.
Heck, RA should be at Egghead to capture Saturn. If this doesn't happen then the connection of Vegapank to Dragon, the Ohara flashback and the conversation of Shaka with Dragon will all be waste of panels.

Smoker is the rival of Luffy from Logue Town , that’s not gonna change

Idiots believe it is gonna be Akainu , when he is a later rendition , who additionally got no hype from Roger

Who is the Garp of this generation? And who is the Sengoku?

Only Smoker literally fits the bill for Garp. Same rebellious nature, but even more so from

Vergo can be seen as a placeholder for Sengoku, as Oda even shows a panel between them, where Sengoku seems to respect Vergo’s power and trusts him with G-5

But ultimately Sengoku isn’t the rival of Roger, that is Garp

Oda could’ve made Smoker lose to Vergo just to reflect this symbolism of Garp and Sengoku, as at some point Sengoku could’ve been more powerful than Garp , until Garp awakened his true haki abilities, then the focus became Garp, not so much Sengoku

Also furthermore a parallel between Smoker and Fujitora is Oda explained that one of Smoker’s hobbies is casino gambling.

There is no way to see Smoker's relevance or important to current plot.

Oda may make him important but so far he has no role.

This is the same as saying Kid would be extremely important during New World. Even Oda thought Kid would be relevant but in the end he wasn't.
