This is why King was shown in a dark location: he's underground, trying to dig his way to Kaido's location.

In order to dig into Wano, the Beast Pirates would need someone familiar with the topography and geology of the region, as well as location of water veins, bedrock, etc.

That's why they kidnapped the carpenter, Minamoto; he knows everything about Wano's old architecture, and how it was built.

If anyone would have an idea how to mine down into the bottom, he'd be a good bet.

The Beast Pirates have Kaido's Vivre Card, so, they should know if he's alive.

Since they're still clearly operating on some level in the country (Big Mom Pirates left after encountering CP0), it makes sense that the Beast Pirates are still here for one simple reason:

Kaido lives.

It'll be related to the Big Mom Pirates. That's why Oda didn't bother giving Smoothie, Compote, and Daifuku proper matchups in Onigashima. Their proper defeats will be relegated to cover stories. It kind of happened with Oven in the Germa 66 one.

Big Mom Pirates sailed back to Whole Cake as far as we know after running into Cipher Pol. It's not like they had just hang out around a country with as rough waters as Wano without food, and, let's be honest: they would need more troops to invade, since Linlin is gone.

IMO the Big Mom Pirates will do a bit in Wano Act 4, recover Big Mom, then we'll see them in Elbaf for the second part of it.

Smoothie's size changing powers are pretty much begging for her to fights Giants, that's what Oda's saving her for, IMO.

Also hope Mont-d'Or gets some love in Elbaf: picture book guy in the "fable" arc.
