Would be interesting if she had more of a darker, savage side like Sabo, based on her jealousy for Oden, Kaido or whoever? Jealous of Kaido for his strength and freedom or maybe her "benevolent obsession" with Oden is a subconscious front of her being jealous/envious of Oden?

This has nothing to do with being dumb or smart lmao.

Luffy is a special, special individual who will become Pirate King.

Zoro is a special, special individual who will become WSS and Right Hand of the said PK.

They learn quick, they adapt quick. Their ceiling will always increase and they can get stronger tremendously after unlocking it.

Besides, you act like Zoro got chance to hit Kaido w/o nerfs lol. Zoro was fucked by Hakai by the time he used Ashura. He didn't even show his full potential against Kaido and now he already has another ceiling to aim for.
