Vegapunk is obsessed with science but he is realizing his mistakes and ultimately his humanity seems to be winning. Kizaru is the opposite, he may be capable of feeling emotional attachment to others but ultimately succumbs to his spinelessness and lack of self respect .
Yeah, but their question is why don't we wish Kizaru dies as well?

I gather it's because he's being spineless and unimportant in this arc.

The concepts of cloning a person or turning someone into a robot are historically viewed as unethical and morally wrong. That particular research is considered bad. No matter how idealistic he was about it at the start, even he notices the harm it does. And so, he sees himself as a fit sacrifice now, as he should.

Voicing something is wrong doesn't cancel out doing it anyways, that is why he needs redemption :kaidowhat:

Kizaru is really just standing around but ultimately doing nothing. He would need to do something very bad to be looked at as villainous or evil, but sadly so far this ain't it :feelscryingman:

He's a random side character, there won't be any time for something like that.
I agree that there’s no time for Vegapunk to have a redemption arc. I’m just saying in a general term redemption by death is weak writing.

Wouldn't call it weak writing per se, it really depends how it's handled. But it's a writing choice I'd expect from one of those terribly formulaic and way too religious epic historical blockbuster from last century.

Vegapunks personification of Greed sold him out, caused the destruction of his livelihood possibly even his life, and gave the government access to a weapon that killed an entire island on a whim.
Hm, I wouldn't call it greed. I see Vegapunk more as the type of person who is too infatuated with his passion that he neglects all other aspects of life and human interaction.

No, I mean literally. York sold him out, the personification of his greed. And because of her, Vegapunk lost everything. This showed how destructive his greed always was even before York was created that greed was inside of him

Oda probably thinks he already redeemed Vegapunk, the last 10 chapters or so we've only seen him with a sad face crying. And earlier we saw him rushing to the battlefield in order to save Bonney. And lastly we have the dramatic stab ofcourse

Kizaru redeeming himself is cool, but not cooler than Logia Awakening
Even if he's to be a spineless little fuck
:milaugh:

He didn’t create actual clones, and you keep consistently ignoring what deal Vegapunk and Kuma both were agreeing to with both measures. Turning him into a robot is wrong, but their hands were tied. They were hoping to save Bonney, and Kuma agreed, even when Vegapunk protested (important detail). Creating a police force was not regarded as bad by Saint Kuma himself. Regarding this as bad (and soso bad) is your own decision.

Potential ethical issues of scientific work, particularly under a government, are a common theme of discussion and stories. That doesn’t make a particular scientist a bad guy when this question pops up, and when he didn’t draft or decide any immoral applications. It is a severe simplification with the other parties involved.
Oda is alluding to such issues, and this might be where you are getting some of your “storytelling rules” from, but he doesn’t simply throw Vegapunk under the bus.

And "redemption" really is a rather narrow storytelling trope to apply all the time. There wouldn't be time for anything else in One Piece, besides.
Also since Bonney already decided Vegapunk is not an enemy, and Saturn "killed" him for his own evil reasons. Because you know... Saturn the boss, evil.

Kizaru is really just standing around but ultimately doing nothing. He would need to do something very bad to be looked at as villainous or evil, but sadly so far this ain't it :feelscryingman:

Omfg, that is so hypocritical and weak. He is seriously and deliberately trying to murder everyone, assuming or “knowing” there are no factors strong enough to oppose him (even if as a reader it’s easy to imagine him secretly “hoping” for Nika to intervene every time).
And even so, this leaves other Marines to gnash one's teeth about every time.

Still in shock we're actually in Elbaf now.
People not realizing that Vegapunks own greed is his and the worlds downfall really missed the theme of this arc.
Exactly man, Oda literally based him on Einstein and Oppenheimer too.

Not to mention he also has the whole Frankenstein and his monster thing going on too.
Vegapunk helped the WG to rebuild a weapon that lets them WIPE OUT ENTIRE ISLANDS FFS and anyone who defends that seriously has some major screws loose lol.

Not to mention turning Bonneys father into an army of completely subservient androids who slaughter indiscriminately without hestitation and thus as a child having to witness her own father becoming mass produced soldiers of the tyrannical, fascist government and she didnt even know which one was her real father and almost died due to it too! It took the real Kuma CHEATING DEATH itself and DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE, overcoming science, fate, death and everything else to save her and show her who the real one was!

Not to mention the reasons Vegapunk did all this was for the pursuit of knowledge and chose to work for the WG just so the piece of shit could get funding for his research! And thus he gave the WG far more opportunity to grow and gain more power, to become even more unstoppable and destructive than they ever were before!

Vegapunk is not that much better/superior to his former associates, the same associates he was WILLING to work with before! The Gorosei invited Vegapunk to work for them and he gladly agreed, twerking for them too instead! Thats why I also hate Shanks now somewhat unironically. Never meet your heroes.

Vegapunk was more than happy to work with people who happily experimented on and ruined the lives of children, ruining their minds and bodies, consigning them to death extremely painfully and slow OR making them live a fate worse than death, where they are complete slaves to their father on his orders and have had all their empathy and "weaker emotions at least" removed, so all they can be the ultimate killing machines on his whims and bloodlust and imagine if they got them back and realised how much mass murder their father has forced them to do against their own will and other horrific atrocities too!?

Thats why Judge/Germa simps make me feel sick and disgust me so much too. Psychos IRL. But also Caesar fans disgust me for similar reasons and if you dont know why after what he did to those poor children, you're a lmassively ost cause too.

Sorry to rant so much but this shit annoys me. Vegapunk is hypocritical scum. Never forget how easily, remorselessly Lilith destroyed and killed one of her own creations, no hesitation. Franky should have HATED that, that goes against his own beliefs and what he was taught by Tom, but alas.

Vegapunk, Judge, Caesar are all fucking scum and Franky is a FAR better scientist and person than all of them combined, Tom and Franky are far greater men than they could ever hope to be.

Doing a few good deeds doesn not absolve you of your crimes, Vegapunk has COUNTLESS blood on his hand including Lulusia epecially recently and he can feel all the remorse he wants, he can feel as sorry as he likes and regretful, but he still helped the WG for decades, he knew what they did to Ohara, he knew exactly the full extent of what they did and he STILL chose to work with them AFTER that, mr peace loving/pacifist who made guns and tanks that shoot flowers!

It reminds me of those celebrities including Mr Narcissist I mean Beast (modern/digital era Mother Teresa) and Taylor Swift who try to make themselves look so benevolent and innocent but have far worse skeletons in the closet than they want you to know about and this all a distraction by them to hide you from finding out about them or damage control for when you do.

They are performative, fake, twisted and sadly millions of people fall for their snake oil bullshit and think they are Gods among us, aboslutely perfect people who cannot be criticised or do any wrong and its sickening.

Sorry again for the rant but I really fucking hate Vegapunk and the simping for his atrocrities and hypocrisy.

Seraphims are literally part clones, part using Lunarian genetics, and part cyborg. They can age and have feelings, like S-Snake showed. If you don't find this morally dubious, you're in a lot of delusion here.

No, Vegapunk started this whole thing willingly, he was very into all his "tasks". Oda did get him hurt and is alluding to his death and is showing his regret in the latest chapters. That is redemption, I don't know why you're pretending like it isn't happening.

Saturn won't get one because he's evil to the core.

We know Kizaru isn't really doing anything here, "deliberately trying to murder everyone" is just shooting random beams no one seems to be hurt from, and no one likely will the way things are going. I don't think Kizaru is even convinced in his orders on Egghead.

:zorothink: you do have a point
What happened to York anyways? I ha dalmost forgitten about her
Probably taken by Blackbeard Pirates along with the seraphim

I’m fully neutral on Vegapunk cause even if he wanted good things, there’s a point where the ends no longer justifies the means.

Kizaruber Eats

Still in shock we're actually in Elbaf now.
Crying means he feels bad! He is redeemed!
:finally:
LMFAO, Hanners-kun, you said in a few words what I tried to say in a thousand! I wish I could be as succinct/concise as you guys are!

Legends say, Vegapunk sings a mixture of Bad by Michael Jackson and I Feel Good by James Brown.

"You know whose bad, WOW I FEEL BAD!"

(Verse 1 - Parody of "I Feel Good" by James Brown)
Woah! I feel bad
Like I knew that I would now
I feel bad
Like I knew that I would now
So bad, so bad, I got a problem, yeah

(Verse 2 - Parody of "Bad" by Michael Jackson)
Your hatin' eyes, they're watchin' me
And I can't hide, I won't agree
Your slanderous words, they cut like knives
But I won't bow down, I'll rise

(Chorus)
'Cause I feel bad, so bad
I know you're watchin', you're just sad
But I feel bad, so bad
You know whose bad

(Bridge)
When I hear your lies, it makes me mad
But I won't let you bring me down, it's so sad
I got the power to stand my ground
Won't let your hate turn me around

(Verse 3)
I feel bad, like I knew that I would
But I won't let your negativity intrude
Your twisted words won't bring me low
I'll rise above, watch me go

(Chorus)
'Cause I feel bad, so bad
I know you're watchin', you're just sad
But I feel bad, so bad
You know whose bad

(Bridge)
When I hear your lies, it makes me mad
But I won't let you bring me down, it's so sad
I got the power to stand my ground
Won't let your hate turn me around

(Outro)
I feel bad, oh, so bad
But I'll keep on fightin', you know whose bad

:lulz::kailaugh:

Its like the same shit IRL when celebrities get away with so much because they made a half assed, insincere apology video and pretended to cry and said they felt bad and are sorry or just cry and claim they feel so sad anyway.

Or how people will just pretty/handsome people get with anything due to simping over their looks in general too.

Preach man, that phrase is the perfect way to summarise this too. The definition of science has gone too far as the trope/saying goes.
