The Kaido hostage-merchant memes are so funny to me, when the Admirals/Celestials are so much worse. Kaido gave Momo two chances to live; the Marines were out there destroying the lives of random women because they thought Roger might have knocked them up.

WG was afraid to fight Whitebeard without Ace as a hostage:

Kaido went to Marineford to aid his Nakama, Newgate, and free his son, Ace, with only King by his side.

Kaido will take hostages, but he will never stoop down to kidnapping a man's son and wife, like the Admirals and World Government will hunt down a pregnant woman, like Rouge with Ace.
