Druckmann openly hated Joel and wanted to spite the community in regards to him.
I haven't played the games but definitely will never play TLOU2 willingly now too, I just followed the controversy with no 2 for a while.
I'm certain he openly said he hates Joel and the fans of his and the previous game or something at some point but I'd struggle to find it again, as I've been trying to.
There's no way Joel's death wasn't written out of complete malice, sheer utter hatred and most likely jealousy of him and such.

According to the authorities, the woman's husband was dismissed as an assistant from Oda's office, so she reportedly sent about one hundred messages that read "Die, Die" and similar words to Oda's mobile phone from September to December of 2007. Oda reported the incidents to the police before they investigated and made the arrest.
