Well for example i was interested in the Wheel of Time show on amazon and i've read that the show got review bombed by the fans of the books the day it launched because it made certain changes in the first 3 episodes.

So in that case having an established fanbase that's ready to jump to critique will likely really hurt their chances with a lot of viewers when they run into the early bad reviews/low score.

in short : it was a film made by someone...his fans gave it 10/10, made it to NO.1 short film of all time in IMDB..people outside of his fanbase realized how shitty that film was and it still has 9.7 imdb.
