Nico Robin lied to Crocodile about Alabasta's Poneglyph in order to keep Crocodile from acquiring it. I always thought this was hilarious, since we later learn that Kaido controlled the island Pluton existed under, Wano.
Robin lying to Croc didn't matter, because Croc would have gotten wiped by Kaido, right?
Nope, Robin saved the whole country.
Crocodile's Fruit do what? Turn shit into sand.
Croc could have MELTED ALL OF WANO'S BORDERS INTO SAND, which would have literally SENT ONIGASHIMA FLYING INTO THE OCEAN, and then accessed Pluton in the turmoil. Even if he hadn't succeeded in using it, Crocodile doing this would have ensured the WG was able to invade the island and take down Kaido and the Beast Pirates.
Robin KNEW about Wano from history, and knew that if it was in the country, Crocodile could just use his Fruit to find it, without even fighting Kaido directly.
If Robin had told Croc the location, he would have gone to Wano, dug straight through the rocky borders by turning them to sand, and then tried to claim it for himself. Robin saved ALL OF WANO from more horrible war.

But, that doesn't mean Crocodile won't open the borders of Wano in the present storyline...
