In short my faves:

1) Law:
I love intelligent characters, and to top that he has some balls. Even though he is not the strongest around, he was more than willing to get in Doffy's and Kaido's way, even before Luffy was in the picture. His backstory is compelling, yet despite that he didn't turn evil. Orphans are my soft spot. And Law's soft spot are actually silly people, proved with who he likes being around - his crew and Straw Hats. His relationship with Corazon and Doffy is by far the most interesting in all of One Piece. He wants revenge against Doffy, but he also has a sense of gratitude for growing up with them. He picked up a lot of Doffy's traits.

2) Shanks:
What's better than a badass character that isn't always serious? His laid-back nature is the best, and he's got the brains to back it up (unlike Luffy). Despite little panel time, he's a clear favourite.

3) Doffy:
Need I say more? He's evil in a playful way, yet he has a human side to him. Nothing in this manga was ever as telling as him waking up after a nightmare.

4) Nami:
Yes yes, it got a bit worse post skip, but I need to have a female lead to love. Her backstory is one of my faves as well. The constant struggle for survival is her main characteristic since she was little, and I think that even in real life this is the most important lesson: keep fighting no matter what. Also, I love her fist of love on the boys. She is the glue of the Monster Trio.

5) Zoro:
Perhaps the deepest thinker of all the Straw Hats. Most mature when someone needs to be. His motivations make perfect sense. He doesn't discriminate based on gender and he is very adamant about it. No need to praise him anymore since this forum is so full of it.

He is my favorite character because he is a complete package :

  • has strength, has weakness
  • has background story that match his character, crew role, and fighting moves
  • has meaningful relationships with many other characters
  • has combat and non-combat functions
  • has narrative importance & progress the story
  • is the most versatile in terms of roles & abilities
  • and last but not least, can be put into any situation and be paired with any kind of character.
Sanji's well written persona:

1. Sanji is a great cook.

2. Because he is a cook, he is good with knives, and Oda makes him have good swordsmanship (Water 7 arc).

3. Because cooking uses hands, Oda makes him fights with legs.

4. Because cooking is heavily related to fire element, Oda makes his power to be fire related. Thus, flaming legs. And because Sanji is a product of science & have science family, his fire generation is science based: friction.

5. France is one of the giant in culinary world, thus Sanji using them as attack names.

6. Because a cook is a job to serve others, Oda makes Sanji to be very kind & caring.

6. His dream is to find a place, also related to ingredients.

7. His dream is to find a place, thus his character is a speed type & have high mobility, which fits with his leg based style.

8. His dream is also about underwater, this is why he didn't eat a DF and has an iron skin body, to handle deep sea pressure.


TLDR : I love versatile character in any media.

Want to go to Impel Down in one day? Ultraspeed his way there
