all the sceeeeenes in onepiece is all base in one anime/manga! And its dbz, im not talking about dbz kai, dbz super but the original dbz, this is the time when Goku mastered his spiritual capabilities from humans this includes the help of Korin, Roshi, Kami, and what were talking right now is the time when Goku learned how to sense spiritual from popo. This is the reason why Goku was so powerful and no one can surpass him because he learned this while the others he fought didnt his strenght and his saiyan race was just a secondary what he learned from humans made him who he was today.
I think the scene was similar to Luffy when he fought eneru,
luffy learned how to counter obsevation haki by predicting his enemies movement (that has observation haki) by their breath its a similar thing that goku learned from popo how to sense spiritual without using the eyes as a observation.
it means that luffy doesnt just have a good sense of smell but also a good sense of hearing, both he could use to fight his enemies
so there’s a chance that all luffy fought specially the 7 warlords on part 1 has this power (obersavtion haki) even crocodile himself that even back on part 1 this is the reason how he easily countered boa hancock’s sister. luffy was the underated one everytime but he learned how to counter them by fighting and he wasnt afraid to try everything
