Why would an apprentice be fighting Roger's #2, when you had Whitey Bay & Rakuyo (and few others) were more prominent members of the crew at the time?

If somebody can fight with Mike Tyson, you don't say "Mike Tyson got stopped by a fodder".. you say "the guy who stopped Mike Tyson must've been a beast".
Unless maybe you were given secret information on Whitebeard pirates at the time that revealed how strong those guys were, hence you're calling them fodder?

Majority of the Roger pirates including Gaban is nothing more than a background character.. and that's not gonna change even until the end of the manga. Shiki in this manga is just a background character. Pirates like John, Silver Axe, Ochoku are nothing but background characters.. not gonna change even by EoS. Sword God Ryuuma.. samething. Rocks D. Xebec = background characters.. no feats.
Simply because they are background characters doesn't equate to them not being strong. Simply because they have no on-panel feats doesn't equate to them being weak. It's fairly evident that Oden took on the Dark King, because of who Oden is and his role as Whitebeard's #2 at that time with Whitebeard calling him "brother".. on top of the fact that he was running back to the scene when that clash happened. White Bay & Rakuyo were shown opposite of Gaban & Rayleigh, but since Oden is taking Rayleigh, that'd mean one of the other took on Gaban.. The fact that they were matching up with the guy who would become to be renowned as the Dark King in parallel to Roger becoming the Pirate King implies they were strong at the time.
Point being that was a terrible statement to make to prove your point.
