Murder Mystery Scenario #1 - Elegy of the Golden Witch - Solution

Ratchet

The End and the Beginning

"Very well. I'd be impressed, if I hadn't had to make it so easy."

The Culprits are [Maria], [George], [Eva] & [Hideyoshi]

"I suppose I will tell you how it's solved. Firstly, you are told that 11 people die, with gives room for two fake deaths. The dining room was locked, so for the locked room to be possible, it meant that the culprit had to be inside. For Gohda to have been lying about the room being locked, then Kumasawa must also have been lying. She was there when he opened it, after all. That meant, at this point, you had Gohda/Kumasawa/??? or Battler/his family or George/his family. Jessica said it was impossible for Battler to kill anyone, so you know at least he was not a killer for the First Twilight.

For the second twilight, the room is again locked. However, nothing is said about someone hiding in the room. The locked room is easily broken this way, and if you follow the red, you'd establish that the culprit that was hiding in this room would not be able to leave the mansion. That meant any more killings had to have been done by an extra person hiding, which of course means you'd need more fake deaths. In other words, for it to not be either Battler and his family, or George and his familiy, you would need Nanjo, Krauss or Natushi, Gohda and Kumasawa - at a minimum as culprits, and none of them could kill Jessica. Obviously, this became impossible - you simply run out of possible murders a culprit can make.

The reason it isn't Battler, of course, is Nanjo comments before his death that Battler hadn't killed anyone. In the seventh twilight, you also have Battler and George in a contradiction - George says no one could have killed Nanjo within the Guesthouse, but Battler confirms that he didn't leave. Lastly, even if you come to an alternate scenario where someone other than Battler/George have killed, Maria claims that there is only one possibility - with this a proven lie, any varient solution would have to include Maria, and by proxy George, as culprits.

So here is how it was done.

In the first twilight, you can actually choose between Eva or Hideyoshi as the main culprit. For the main purposes of this explanation, we will say it was Eva. She killed Rosa, Kyrie, Rudolf and Genji, and then she and Hideyoshi locked the room from the inside, and faked their deaths. When the bodies were found, George faked confirming their deaths. After the group left, Eva and Hideyoshi left the room.

Hideyoshi left the mansion and went hiding on the island. Eva and George went into Natsuhi's room, and George lured Natsuhi and Krauss there. George killed one of them, and Eva killed the other. George then left the room, while Eva locked the door and hid. After the group discovered the bodies and left, Eva could not leave the mansion due to the seals in place.

Maria killed Shannon. This is the only murder she could have made, after all.

Then in the guesthouse, George lied that it had been locked up, and Hideyoshi entered, killing Gohda and Kumasawa. During the seventh twilight, Maria lied that the guesthouse was locked up, while George lied that no one could kill Nanjo inside the guesthouse. After killing Nanjo, Hideyoshi hid in the rose garden, where he killed Jessica.

If this were a wolf and sheep puzzle, it would be a bad end for Battler.

Can you think of another workable solution? I will happily discuss it."

I prepared this ahead of time, so leaving a disclaimer that this could very well be outdated depending on how night actions go*

Scum lean:

kavotino

If he isn't scum IDEK: Alwaysmind

Indie: Dr_Professor83

Connections:
Psylocke/Psychic clearly defended Alwaysmind, which looks a lot worse with AM having a vote deletion ability.
Indigo says he cleared Dr_Professor with Mech
T-Pein says his soulmate died instead of him if he's targeted, has not yet found his soulmate.
I could see Yo Tan Wa and Gambit as purposefully aiming for the lowest posters reward, which is an inherently scummy reward to go for IMO since it's an easy excuse for coasting.
