General & Others What is your most regrettable thing that happened or should have happen in Marineford war?

Ok guys. After two great chapters come in a row, and the fandom has calmed for a bit, I decided to make my first official thread about One Piece. So here we are:

Marineford war has always been a 'meh' arc for me subjectively but I can see why it become fans' favorite.

Since I'm relatively new here, I wonder if there was thread ever discussed about this. But anyway I asked you what is your most regrettable thing that happened or at least should have happen in Marineford war?

Mine is:
- Shanks actually can come sooner cause he's already seen this coming. I don't remember if there is an actual explanation about this.

- No one from SH coming and helping Luffy in that war (yeah I know this is very random) but I wanted to see someone especially Zoro (for 'first mate' thing reason) or maybe Brook (he's the only pre-ts straw hat who didn't get proper arc after his own arc to show his capabilities and enjoy such an adventure).

So what's yours???

I will go a different direction and actually list some of my complaints about the writing.

1) Oda didn't do the best job juggling all the different characters. Guys like Kizaru basically did nothing the entire war, which seems really unrealistic in the big picture.

2) Haki was very rare on the battlefield. I know, it just got introduced back then, but it just didn't age well in hindsight. Nowadays even battles between mid-tiers are pure haki-fests.

3) Almost no casualties outside of Ace and WB. I mean come on ... this was a full-blown war and Oda didn't have the balls to kill off any other minor characters. Just a few more would've been enough to show the drama and brutality of this war. As it stands right now, Ace and WB being the only deaths is a bit cringeworthy if you look at it realistically.

I agree with you, that Marineford is vastly overhyped btw.

I rate several other OP arcs way higher (Jaya/Skypiea, Water7/Enies Lobby, Sabaody, Impel Down).

I'm sure they know Marineford war will happen through newspaper. But did they know that Luffy will come? And even if they decided to come, how fast they can get there?
I think Rayleigh should come since Ace is his captain's son. For Dragon I think Oda shouldn't have made Sabo lost his memories. So when Sabo saw Ace's execution he would ask Dragon to go to Marineford.

Not sure how fast they can get there. If they know Ace's execution schedule few days before I think they can make it in time to Marineford.

Not enough fights with the Commanders other than the main ones, and their allies.

Not enough serious fights with the top Tiers.

Lack of use of haki.

Ace stupidely ruining everything the others did by fighting Akainu and thus getting himself killed anyway.

Crocodile choosing to protect Ace and Luffy for no reason despite having made it clear that his goal was to kill Whitebeard.

Boa Hancock being able of attacking marines and Pacifistas with all impunity with no reaction from the marine leaders.

Sengoku letting Luffy free Ace despite being surely more than capable of sending him back of the execution platform or smashing him even without using his df.

I think war of the best was on of the greatest wars that ever happened in the history of fiction

- pure fantasy base fight
- the numbers did matter , not just overpowered people
- the plans did matter , not just overpowered people
- twists kept coming
- many known people where there
- the upper hand changed times and times
- the deaths were great and epic
- the ending was just perfect

the only thing that I might enjoyed more was more fights ... more screen time fight is one thing one piece need so bad

but even without that ... and merely just small showing off power .. it was still great

I think Oda is a coward he is too scared to reveal anything that he made other characters get involved in the fights or Marco and Juzu get distracted so he can avoid revealing anything about commanders or admirals power
the fights should have been a lot longer even if he wanted to use distraction it should have happened atleast after a few pages of on panel battle
Haki isn't consistent
There should have be a lot more casuality i mean who gives a shit about Curiel, Yamakiji, Ronse, those twin brother etc...

Its the struggle of keeping a ridiculous amount of top tiers from going all out and most unphased by the whole war. Oda had to hide powers, strengths, and most battles because he's clearly saving many of these characters for the final war.

Marineford was a great hype tool, but in retrospect it hid a shit ton for obvious reasons.

Yeah, but that is the problem.

If you have to hide a shit ton of powers and characters, just don't do it as an author.

It will look really bad in hindsight.
