Funny how it's only Zoro fans who "understood" this and everyone else knows Kaido is stronger. Surely Zoro fans aren't just biased or something right?
You made me google the meaning. As a non-native speaker, you never know if I could misunderstand certain words. According to the dictionary, it has multiple meanings.
Number 1: "(of a substance or object) strong enough to withstand adverse conditions or rough handling. "
Number 2: "able to endure hardships or pain."
You could argue Kaido is tougher in the second meaning, since Kaido took more hits to go down, but King was definitely tougher in the first meaning. The meaning anyone has ever argued King is tougher than Kaido, because he is.

When reffering to someone's ability to fight, the two words are used interchangably, and neither one means "defence" or "attack". That said, King having more defence is a take that literally only biased Zoro fans make. Kaido is so obviously on a completely different level of durability. He took ACoC attacks constantly, including Zoro's ACoC Asura and stayed fighting without slowing down. Meanwhile King lost from full health after one non asura CoC slash. Incomparable.
The toughness of something is its sturdiness. When you speak of real people, they are all made of bones and muscles, so it's understandably not used in the literal sense, but here we are in a fantasy setting in which the toughness of King, in its scientifical meaning, is superior to any other character's on the setting so far.
Kaido got scarred by a CoC coated attack, and had his scales pierced by a CoA coated tatsumaki, and hell, he got his whole body pierced by the Red Seven Fodders. King flames on only got his clothes damaged by CoC coated slashes from a Zoro who had started mastering the skill beyond the short awakening he had against Kaido, and then Zoro still claimed his CoC coated attacks wouldn't work on flames-on King and timed his attacks for when he dropped his defense for the speed boost.

You can say it that way, but don't expect people using real world terms to immediately know what you mean by them. Calling someone "tough" and calling someone "strong" is the exact same thing in the real world.
Also, your entire argument is demolished by the simple fact that Kaido took a much stronger attack from Zoro with Asura and it barely slowed him down, while King lost and had his entire wing sliced off from a regular, weaker CoC attack without Asura. Even if you want to claim King technically has harder scales, if he gets one shotted by an attack that wouldn't slow Kaido down, you can't argue he has better defence.
Also, Nik's point was that since Zoro could beat King, he can beat Kaido, clearly implying King>Kaido in general, so your toughness=defence idea isn't even relevant to the discussion.
