Character Discussion Why did King need to call the flying six?

#1

Kaido mentioned that king was the one requested to call the flying six, in order to get help on bringing back yamato. In that case, how did this relate to king, then? Kaido could just summon the flying six by himself and told them to search for yamato. That scene just seems unnatural to me in terms of plot

Because your position in The Beast Pirates matters a lot. Kaido likes to make his crew competitive, "humiliating" The Flying Six by making them get orders from the Calamities rather than him directly is a way to get them to want to shape up and surpass their own level

This is a very simple Crew structure

It’s part of King’s overall characterisation as an organiser and a leader who keeps on top of situations. He learns BM is coming into Wano, immediately moves out and stops her getting in. He knows Kaido is going to want to get the Flying Six involved, so he steps in and gets them there. Everything is chaotic and Kaido is up on the roof, King steps in starts giving the orders to get the situation back under control.

Even small things like him offering his sword to Kaido to decapitate Orochi without either saying a word, it all adds up to an impression of this guy as Kaido’s capable right hand.

yeah, except the part where king just delegated back the commanding task to kaido.

I feel like it would make more sense if king just gave order to the flying six directly to portray king's authority in the Beast pirate crew.

I think it’s cause Kaido was goofing off and didn’t attend to grabbing Yamato immediately. So King decided to take action instead of procrastinating

To troll them. He made them feel like Kaido wanted to see them but then told them that he was the one that called them and that they aren't worthy of being called Directly by Kaido
