Why no reddit pics

As you all may have noticed in the recent years (at least in Europe) Google has turned pretty much shit. We're being censored so hard the Chinese probably call the EU a dictatorship.

In addition to that, Google seems to be best friends with reddit. So when you're searching for images on Google, most results originate from reddit.

This brings us here. As far as I am concerned, it's not possible to embed reddit pics in threads.

Why is that and will it change some day? It's annoying to have to add -reddit all the times when I am looking for specific panels.

We used to be able to embed them, a year+ ago or so. It sucks to use Discord as a go between just to post reddit pics

I think it's because the reddit link doesn't end with the filetype because reddit doesn't allow to open the pic itself but rather a reddit page with the pic/post in it
Adblocker didn't change anything.

Well okay, whatever. Gotta live with it, thanks bros

That's cause the url of the image you want to post is messed up lol.

You can always just host the link in postimages and then post the postimages url on the insert image here.

If you can't get the reddit link to work on postimages either, just download the image first and then host the image from your device into postimages.

It doesn't work for me in mobile

Whenever I need to use reddit pics , I need to save the pic, host the link in discord

Too much work
Reddit switched to short links a while back for their app and I believe the mobile site as well, if I'm not mistaken, so @Bogard will have to update the Media Sites addon if he has that installed on this forum to add support for those short links and whatnot. This could potentially be one of the issues if you're trying to post stuff from Reddit to this forum.

A few questions to help troubleshoot, if I may ask:
1. Can you provide the link or links to the images that won't embed?
2. Have you tried seeing if using the IMG BBCode's manually gives you any issues?
3. Are you grabbing the image link from Google Image results or directly from the subreddit post?

@Bogard can you?

There's difference between the two?

Sure is! Google's display of images in its search engine image preview depends on what it has crawled and stored in its CDN. Sometimes, you'll get images embedded as Base64 data URIs, like the code snippet below.

Code:
data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQEAkACQAAD/4QAiRXhpZgAATU0AKgAAAAgAAQESAAMAAAABAAEAAAAAAAD/2wBDA==

Naturally, it is a lot longer, which is probably why people aren't seeing the image once it's posted. You pretty much end up exceeding the maximum number of characters allowed in posts. So, while the image shows perfectly in the quick reply box, it might not show up because the Base64 string is too long for the current settings on the forum.

Another issue could be related to regional or country-specific bans on the CDN that hosts the image. We encountered a similar issue at my first IT helpdesk job. The previous team had blocked Facebook access via the firewall, but Microsoft was using Akamai for their CDN at the time. Unfortunately, this blockage also affected OneDrive for the web, causing disruptions. Good times!
