Break Week Zoro shouldnt be first mate or dual protagonist.

He has no purpouse in those roles. His value is being Zoro. he's not a good leader or charismatic or even interested in those things. we liked Zoro because he's singularly focused on becoming wss swordsman and by becoming a strawhat equally invested in making Luffy the pirate king.being firstmate isn't in his interest or ability and takes away from what I initially valued in Zoro. but maybe thats the direction oda is choosing to take for the crew. they hardly seem focused on their initial goals and thats in oart of whats missing from One Piece.

Tho in the crew is needed a balance where there should be soft hand, Luffy, and a strong hand, Zoro, who would take care over the situation from the colder side as it was the best shown while the Water 7 saga. First mate doesn't have to be charismatic or stuff like that. For example Rayleigh while he was still a pirate and a first mate of Roger was a colder and more stoic persona in the crew who would take over the more serious topics or situation.

fun fact: at the beginning Oda planned that Usopp would be a first mate :usosmug:

When ZKK doesn’t happen there will be a Tsunami of Zoro tard tears
Ahhh the guy who left the crew and couldnt resolve his own family issues and had his captain bail him out? That guy?

That same guy who's main accomplishment in his own arc was baking a cake?

He was written like that...very early on. Now it's gotten to the point where if he were to die at the end of this arc and Yamato and Carrot join the crew, the main plot (reaching Laugh Tale, finding One Piece and the final war) wouldn't really change and the crew would keep on trucking.

Thing is, Oda is certainly going to make Zoro the "first mate" at the end of the series but given how he's been written the last...400 chapters, if he continues to be written that way it won't feel earned imo. He hasn't beaten any opponents that solidly sets him apart from someone like Sanji and the pragmatic voice of reason that was valuable pre-timeskip will be overshadowed by someone like Jinbei.

I think its a shame Oda's not properly developing Zoro as that first mate character because other than existing to sell merchandise, I don't see the point in Zoro's character...and I shouldn't be feeling like that towards the first person Luffy ever recruited.
