Questions & Mysteries Zoro Sword broke in chapter 109

#1
Hello, i have had this issues since i was young.
In chapter 109, Zoro fights mr.9 who hits his new sword, i believe wad ichimonji, and clearly breaks it on panel.
Then it just "never happened".

Was oda just drawing clink noises and it's just shitty perspective? Legit the sword looks broken but we know it wasn't.

Not a downplaying thread.

I can see why it's confusing. The impact bubble thingy makes the sword look like it broke. If you look closely beyond what looks like the pointy part of his sword, you can make out what is actually the rest of his sword. The darker line part. The "broken piece" is actually just an extension of the impact bubble.

Also I skimmed the panels before and after quickly, and the impact is not actually with his swords. He actually hit Zoro on the forehead and that's what made the metal sound. You can see some impact lines in front of his face. And then the next panel Zoro is bleeding.

Zoro also says some stuff about his acrobatics, so this implies that he was probably caught off guard by his odd movements. Didn't even get to block the bat and got bonked.

The hit in the face was from Miss Monday, in the previous panels/chapter.
Otherwise i believe is just drawn shittily.
Does not help that he puts the sword away like if it was broken

Oh yeah, you're right. I didn't remember the order of things from that arc. Forgot he already got brass knuckled at that point. The previous pages were just side profiles of his face so I didn't see the blood.

:suresure:

Forget what I said, about the head bonk. The rest of the stuff still holds true though. Doesn't help that Oda drew Zoro a toothpick sword in that panel so it's hard to make out.
