Also regarding your point about the "Dues ex machina" that transformation was actually foreshadowed in volume 25 when he defeated his inner hollow. The hollow told him to "not die otherwise you won't be able to control my power" hence the full hollow form.
The final getsuga tensho on the other hand was a Dues ex machina for sure, but it looked damm cool ngl

Yu Yu Hakusho was pretty good, until the final arc... Then the author quit mid tournament fight.
