Oda says that the animal that symbolizes Kidd is the fighting bull. This is a description for the animal:
"There are certain strains of bull with a marked ability to learn from what goes on in the arena ... faster than the actual fight progresses which makes it more difficult from one minute to the next to control them ..."
Sounds like Kidd could be a fighter who grows exponentially during combat in the arena. And again it’s out of character for Kidd to just give up and drop Kaido, even if he had no current way he wouldn’t put himself beneath Luffy like that.
