If King fights a decently recovered Zoro and still manages to pressure him to go all out, then he is actually be much stronger than he's given credit for.
The point is that because it's not powerful, the link isn't cumbersome. You're talking about a main character who couldn't begin to give a shit about that, so really it's not worth shit. Luffy has worked his ass off and the mere suggestion that he was "destined" to have it doesn't change that at all.
Of course it does from a narrative point of view as Oda is forcing the reader to suspend their disbelief in order to keep the concept of a humble Luffy who set sail in order to achieve his dream, even though he's:
1) Wearing the Straw Hat that belonged to Roger and is linked to something the head of the World Government keeps hidden.
2) The son of the most wanted criminal in the world, the grandson of the Navy's hero and Roger's known rival, the brother of both Roger's son plus commander of Whitebeard and the Revolutionary Army's second in command.
3) More than likely the future Joy Boy, which could have been acceptable if Oda didn't include the whole hideous prophecy referred during Oden's flashback, as now he isn't simply achieving something but what he is "written in the stars".
And now a prodigy in Cipher Pol was incarcerated because he lost an incredibly precious fruit that happened to be eaten by him.
The power of the fruit is literally irrelevant here, I'm talking about something way more transcendental than that. Luffy can "work his ass off" as much as he wants, but the whole character is currently built on destiny and an unbelivable amount of links to the elite of the world in every possible way. I'm not buying it anymore because his character is engulfing the complexity of the world and that's the issue here that completely unsuspends the disbelief, not the fruit's strength nor how many of Luffy's achievements will be earned (which is up to debate because, to begin with, what we're witnessing right now, Kaido's defeat, was bound to happen by the hands of the pirates coming to the New World "twenty years into the future", which instantly erases any possibility for other contenders to take his head and therefore diminishes what Luffy is going to achieve by taking him down).
If you like this, good for you. I simply can't stand it and absolutely takes me off the story to see that everything related to Luffy needs to be important. The very fact of his straw hat, which is a symbol of infancy and humbleness, being turned into something so incredibly transcendental is proof enough of what I'm saying.
Gomu Gomu is special as it was important enough to put the Rob Lucci of his era, who was assigned to guard it, in jail for a decade (and more if not for Teach).

If Sanji vs HybridQueen ends with Sanji not using the RS we can safely say that it only provides him with defensive and stealthy capabilities for his rescue missions ? since it was used to save people of the town and Momo which kinda feels better for Sanji.
