They were testing each other. Big Moms knows Kaido is stronger. She pleads with him reminding him of his debt. Kaido on the other hand honors the debt and has shown morals and a code of honor several times. At the same time they do have to make a bit of a threat as they could kill each other and are likely to backstab lex Germa and Orochi.

He didn't mention it but just like with zoros first attack with killer on kaido, the 1 sword style attack, and tatsumi enma was getting highlighted either visually and/or verbally
