There is no indication Kaido grew any stronger
- Kaido, and Big Mom(with young Whitebeard) were only mentioned to have grown stronger since their days of the Rocks, but there were no indication of when they actually peaked
- We know though that Kaido was in the Rocks 38 years ago, formed his crew 33 years ago, and fought Oden 20years ago. That means he had 18years to grow stronger before facing Oden+experience of fighting in the world strongest crew of the past
- In this batch of spoilers, it mentions that 25years ago, Kaido was trying to avoid being military overwhelmed by Wano forces(mainly Oden+Hyogoro forces), which implies it was the main difference in the 5 timegap instead of individual strength, and military force plays a huge role in the quest to become a yonko, and thus may have more being a reason in Kaido's time to rise to yonko than his individual strength

we already knew Kaido had bad losses in his past yet he has the title of WSC, it only make sense that Kaido just recently became a monster that everyone would bet on him against anyone in a fight

Mihawk/Shanks/admirals grew in strength during those years.
But Not Kaido cause Oden wank.
Also, Kaido might be a giant which means he takes a while to reach prime.
Wano is the Swordman arc too one having lower expectations of Zoro in this arc is way ....sorry but foolish.
Making Zoro grow a lot here has more sense than waiting other arc.
Luffy will still be the spotlight idk why the fear.
Zoro should definitely leave the island as the strongest swordman alive in Wano ( yes King is included) unless you think he will need to go back .With this as the minimum Oda can easily make him repeat Oden scarring and we should be ok with it tbh cuz it would be in the boundaries.
Making Zoro grow a lot here has more sense than waiting other arc.

The purpose is that zoro still has room to grow be challenged and become stronger
End of wano zoro has no purpose being on the same level as oden and prime ray because that more or less already has him the same level as mihawk
Eos zoro will surpass mihawk. Zoro doesn't need to be able to do it now.
Luffy will surpass primebeard and roger but you aint gonna hear nobody except maybe @sanjikun lol putting him close after wano

It seems people are ok with him just fighting Mihawk ....he doesn't need to prove himself against enemies midway that's way weak narrative.
It's obvious he needs to face enemies first to reach Mihawk ....enemies strong enough to prove Oden or Rayleigh were surpassed that's how a path of someone wanting to be the best in something can be build.
If anything Zoro goal is the one that need constant enemies unlike others.

Beating a top tier is more than impressive but theres no point in beating more than one. Like if luffy solos kaido fair and square theres no point in him soloing another one. Like theres no point in luffy fighting another 1yc
